Every March, hawthorn trees bloom and only bloom for about 20-30 days before gradually withering and falling all over the hills.
Lung Cung village, located at the foot of Lung Cung peak (2,913m), the highest peak in Hoang Lien Son range, is considered the “capital of hawthorn trees” of Mu Cang Chai district. Lung Cung has many old trees among more than 6,000 hectares of trees planted in Mu Cang Chai and is famous for its delicious fruit.
The road to Lung Cung is quite difficult to travel, with many bumpy places. Visitors can ride a motorbike alone if they have a good driving skill or hire a local motorbike taxi to take them there.
Hawthorn trees not only bring beauty that attracts tourists, but products made from hawthorn fruits also help 220 households in Lung Cung village escape poverty.
When the hawthorn flowers in Lung Cung bloom, you will clearly see 5 round ivory white petals, the pistil gradually turns from yellow to brown until it fades. This year, the flowering season in Lung Cung lasts until almost the end of March.
It is known that the mountainous district of Mu Cang Chai currently has over 6,000 hectares of hawthorn, of which over 3,000 hectares have been harvested with a yield of 3,000 tons/year, bringing a stable source of income to the people without much care.
In addition to flower viewing, visitors can climb to conquer Lung Cung peak, 2,913m above sea level.
