The Cultural Heritage Grant Programme (CHGP) is an initiative of the British Council in Vietnam, in collaboration with the Center for Cultural Heritage Research and Promotion (CCH), with the aim of supporting communities and individuals who hold and practice heritage to identify and address challenges in protecting cultural heritage towards sustainable development. At the same time, the programme aims to promote the role, ownership rights and participation of the community, and encourage the creation of opportunities to improve livelihoods for the community through heritage.

In 2025, the community cultural heritage protection support program decided to support 9 project groups such as: Improving weaving and sewing techniques for Buon Buor Buor brocade weavers (Hoa Xuan commune, Buon Ma Thuot city); Capacity building for Hmong women in Pa Co, Mai Chau, Hoa Binh from traditional handicraft techniques; Restoring the traditional weaving technique "Tam Huc Man" of the Thai Do people in Thai villages (Quy Chau district, Nghe An province); "Photovoice - Recording the local culture of the Thai people in Hoa Tien village (Quy Chau district, Nghe An province)...

At the program, representatives of project groups introduced and discussed identifying and promoting heritage values, developing sustainable heritage; expanding the market for local products, developing and managing heritage tourism; cross-cutting issues such as gender equality, empowering women and girls; participation and ownership in the protection and promotion of cultural heritage, etc.

According to Dr. Le Thi Minh Ly - Member of the National Cultural Heritage Council: Preserving cultural heritage is not the responsibility of any individual but a great cause, requiring the cooperation of the entire community. Looking at Japan or Korea, we can see that they preserve the culture in the countryside very well. Or even modern countries in Europe and America, they still have policies to support different ethnic communities to have the opportunity to express and preserve their own culture.

Regarding the project groups selected for support in 2025, Dr. Le Thi Minh Ly said that these are all projects with great cultural value. The difficulties of these project groups mostly lie in human resources, implementation time and product output.

For projects to be realized, there needs to be a long-term strategy; documentation, media promotion; finding sponsors; boldly approaching investment funds... The voice from the British Council, recommendations to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism were also emphasized by Dr. Le Thi Minh Ly.

In addition, to increase sustainability in some projects such as the project "Photovoice - Recording the local culture of the Thai people in Hoa Tien village (Quy Chau district, Nghe An province)", Dr. Le Thi Minh Ly said that it is necessary to have the participation of photographers and professional people...

Referring to ethnic costumes, Dr. Le Thi Minh Ly highly appreciated the project "Improving weaving and sewing techniques for Buon Buor brocade weavers (Hoa Xuan commune, Buon Ma Thuot city)", and affirmed that young people today are very interested in ethnic costumes. This is demonstrated through the upcoming concert "Anh trai vu ngan tam thorn" in Ho Chi Minh city. At the event, the program producer called on the audience to join together to set a Guinness World Record with the title "Event with the largest number of people wearing traditional Vietnamese costumes" and received the support of many young people.

"This is not only a special music event but also a cultural festival honoring the beauty and value of the costumes of 54 Vietnamese ethnic groups" - Dr. Le Thi Minh Ly informed.

Through the training course, participating communities have the opportunity to improve their capacity in protecting cultural heritage, while opening a forum for community members to introduce themselves, share information, and expand cooperation and connection opportunities.
