It is known that the fire broke out at around 3:00 p.m. on March 20 at Minh Phuong residential group, Nham Bien ward. Due to dry weather conditions, thick layers of vegetation and many flammable plants, combined with strong winds, it caused many difficulties for fire fighting.
One of the important measures implemented was to set up a firebreak to prevent the spread of the fire. At the same time, specialized equipment was also used to extinguish the fire, decisively preventing the fire from entering the area of Truc Lam Phuong Hoang Zen Monastery.
After many hours of efforts by authorities and local people, by around 4am on March 21, the fire was basically contained. However, according to reporters, in the Hang Dau and Doc areas, the fire was still smoldering in the ground cover, with a high risk of re-ignition.
The burned forest area was quite large, from the foot of the mountain up to the top of Non Vua, causing damage to many types of forestry plants such as pine, acacia, and eucalyptus.
Mr. Dao Xuan The, Head of Minh Phuong residential group, said the fire started in sub-area 1 and then spread to the surrounding area. The fire area is all in the production forest of the people and part of the production forest is managed by the military. Currently, the authorities are conducting a scene investigation, investigating the cause of the fire and handling it according to the provisions of the law.
In recent times, the government has deployed many forms of warning about the risk of forest fires in many localities. However, objective causes, especially extreme weather, have significantly contributed to the consecutive forest fires in Bac Giang province. To improve the effectiveness of forest protection in the face of increasingly unpredictable conditions and the abuse of forest resources, more drastic and synchronous participation from both the political system and the people is needed.
