The above information was shared by Lieutenant Colonel Le Manh Ha, Deputy Chief of Staff of Ho Chi Minh City Police Department at a press conference providing information on socio-economic issues on the afternoon of November 23.
Responding to the press, Lieutenant Colonel Le Manh Ha said that currently there are some young people using “American weed” despite warnings from authorities. The reason is due to lack of knowledge and misconceptions about drugs and American weed.
This group of young people believes that substances such as Amphetamine, heroin, and opium are drugs, while weed is considered a herb and is harmless and not addictive. "This is a wrong perception," Mr. Ha emphasized.
In fact, weed is synthetic marijuana sprayed on dried and chopped plants. This is an extremely powerful drug, addictive and many times more dangerous than marijuana. Users of weed will experience mental disorders, emotional disorders, hallucinations, "stoned" states, and even death.
Manufacturers often sell these products in a variety of colors to attract users. The chemicals in American weed are extremely toxic and highly addictive.
In the first 10 months of 2023, Ho Chi Minh City Police discovered and solved 1,853 drug violations (an increase of 826 cases compared to the same period), and arrested 4,021 subjects (an increase of 654 subjects compared to the same period).
The police force also seized about 806 kg of various drugs; 1,200 ml of drug-containing solution; 88.8 kg of precursors and many other related tools and means of criminal activities. In addition, 566 cases were prosecuted, 2,467 defendants were prosecuted, 254 cases and 1,505 subjects were administratively handled...
Ho Chi Minh City police also said that current drug testing kits make it easy to detect marijuana users for handling according to regulations. Illegal marijuana users will be administratively punished and have their drug rehabilitation records established according to the Government's Decree. If they illegally buy, sell, store, transport, or organize the use of marijuana, they will be handled according to the provisions of the Penal Code.
Previously, in May, a 15-year-old boy in grade 9 in Binh Tan District (HCMC) had to be hospitalized after trying "American weed" priced at VND20,000. The patient said that this type of American weed was sold by an acquaintance in a park near his school.
After smoking for about 10 minutes, I felt my heart beating fast, my body numb, hallucinations, dizziness, and continuous vomiting. People around called an ambulance 115 to take me to the City Children's Hospital.
