Bao Long, majoring in chemistry, and Thanh Cong, majoring in biology, Lam Son High School for the Gifted, Thanh Hoa Province, are twins. The twins both won first prize in biology in the national excellent student competition for the 2023-2024 school year.

"Last year, when I was in 11th grade, I participated in the national high school biology exam and won third prize, so this year I was determined to "surpass" the prize. When I finished the test, my teachers graded it and I knew I would get a high score, but I didn't think it would be first prize," Bao Long said.
Although he majored in chemistry, Bao Long had a passion for biology, so he focused on studying and learned very quickly. According to Bao Long, to study biology well, one needs to have a solid grasp of theoretical knowledge, then do practice exercises, and at the same time, read more reference books, learn about types of questions, and learn about knowledge on the internet.

Bao Long said that in secondary school, he participated in the provincial excellent student competition but did not win any prize. Failure in the provincial excellent student competition helped him gain more experience and motivation to strive and make more efforts.
Sharing his experience in achieving high scores in the national excellent student exam, the male student said it was about dividing the time for each question reasonably and keeping a steady mind while doing the test.
Talking about his dream, Bao Long said that he really admires "doctor dad". Dad is the one who motivates Long and his siblings to try hard and make efforts in their studies. Bao Long has a desire to wear a white coat like his dad, participating in examining and treating people.

Like his twin brother, Thanh Cong has a passion for biology and has always dreamed of becoming a doctor. Thanh Cong said that his father is a doctor, often leaving early and coming home late, and has to be on duty, but every time he hears his father talk about "reviving" patients, he feels very happy. That is the motivation that helps Cong and his brothers try their best every day.
According to Thanh Cong, the long list of achievements of Lam Son High School for the Gifted puts pressure on him. However, for Thanh Cong, that pressure also motivates him to excel in his studies.
"This time, I will try to get the best results in the exam, hoping to be selected to compete internationally. I will try to win a medal as a thank you to my teachers, parents who have taught and inspired me throughout the past time," Thanh Cong said.
Teacher Le Thi Thuy, biology teacher at Lam Son High School for the Gifted - who directly teaches twins Bao Long and Thanh Cong, said she started teaching them since grade 10 and found them to be talented and very intelligent.

"The two students came to biology late but were very passionate. Many nights they still diligently studied and solved problems; if they couldn't solve a problem, they would call me in the middle of the night, and all three of them would find the answer together," Ms. Thuy confided.
According to Ms. Thuy, before the official exam took place, the students participated in friendly competitions and always achieved high scores. When entering the official exam, she had high expectations that the students would win prizes and they did just that.
In the recent national excellent student competition for the 2023-2024 school year, Thanh Hoa province had 90 students participating and 84 of them won prizes. Of which, there were 9 first prizes, 22 second prizes, 23 third prizes and 30 consolation prizes.
Notably, of the 84 prizes, 83 were won by students from Lam Son High School for the Gifted; the remaining contestants were from Chu Van An High School, Sam Son city.
With the total number of awards achieved, Thanh Hoa ranked 10th nationwide after the following provinces and cities: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Nghe An, Hai Duong, Vinh Phuc, Bac Giang, Quang Ninh and Nam Dinh.
