Special art program to celebrate Kate Festival 2023

In the joyful and exciting atmosphere of the Kate festival of the Cham people following Brahmanism in the province, on the evening of October 13, at the stadium of Huu Duc village, Phuoc Huu commune (Ninh Phuoc), the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism organized a special art program with the theme "Shining Cham cultural heritage".

Attending the program were comrade Nguyen Long Bien, member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; representatives of the Provincial People's Council; the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, departments, branches, localities; dignitaries, officials and a large number of people who came to watch and enjoy.

The program took place in a joyful and exciting atmosphere with the anticipation of many local people despite the unfavorable rainy and windy weather. The program opened with an introduction to the unique cultural features of the Kate Festival - one of the major religious and belief activities organized by the Cham Brahman community in Ninh Thuan province every year to demonstrate the morality of drinking water and remembering its source, remembering the ancestors who contributed to building the homeland and village; an opportunity to strengthen family ties and neighborhood ties in the community.

Next was a special art program consisting of 3 parts: part 1 - The scent of terracotta; part 2 - The sparkling colors of heritage; part 3 - The shining of Cham cultural heritage, with performances by all artists, actors of the provincial folk music troupe and more than 60 mass actors mobilized to participate. The opening was a song and dance performance "Panduranga Land" praising the skillful hands, talent, and rich creativity of the Cham people who made the arid land bloom and spread fragrance. The program consisted of 14 elaborately staged performances, including: the "Terrace of Terracotta" choir, the "Love of the Pottery Village" duet, the "Concord" instrumental ensemble, the "Talieo Sings" choir, the "Spring Comes to the Ancient Tower" solo, the "Kate Festival Drumbeat" singing and dancing, "Cham People Enjoy the Festival", "Cham People Thank the Party", "Tower Drops" and the dances "Triumph Song", "Weaving Life", "Blowing Soul into the Ginang Drumbeat". The performances depicted the Cham temples and towers built of baked bricks with skillful carvings and sculptures, the lines were both majestic and splendid, and the decorative motifs were both vivid and realistic, and the mysterious and magical.

These works are evidence of a Cham pottery art heritage associated with folk performing arts, customs, beliefs, and festivals of the Cham people, which has just been recognized by UNESCO in the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding. Cham art forms reflect a process of labor and artistic creation; it crystallizes intelligence, talent, and the ability to perceive art and is always closely linked to the religious life, gods, and traditional rituals of the Cham people. Thereby affirming that in the flow of modern life, the Cham cultural heritage treasure is always a source of nourishment for the soul of each person and goes hand in hand with the development of Ninh Thuan homeland.

Speaking at the program, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Long Bien acknowledged, highly appreciated and commended the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ninh Phuoc District People's Committee and related departments, branches and sectors for advising and organizing the implementation of a special art program to welcome the Kate Festival in 2023.

Consider this as the starting activity for organizing cultural, sports and tourism events; propaganda activities, welcoming the Kate festival in 2023 to spread the scale and value of the Kate festival, a cultural heritage that has been included in the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, contributing to introducing and promoting to the people, domestic and international tourists about a colorful Ninh Thuan. On behalf of the provincial leaders, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee sent to the dignitaries, officials and the entire Cham Brahman community in the province a joyful, safe, economical and healthy Kate festival, continuing to actively contribute to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, contributing to building the great national unity bloc, preserving and promoting the traditional cultural identity of the nation, and at the same time contributing to making the "Kate Festival of the Cham people of Ninh Thuan province" a part of the national cultural heritage of Vietnam, a contribution of the Cham people and Cham culture to the unified and diverse Vietnamese culture.
