- Vinh Xuong is the only border commune of Tan Chau town, bustling with Vinh Xuong international border gate by road and river, adjacent to Kaorm Samnor commune (Kandal province, Kingdom of Cambodia). The geographical location is favorable for both river and road routes, helping the lives of people on both sides of the border to develop more and more. However, this also poses many challenges in protecting sovereignty and security and order on the border in the area.

In particular, the Party Committee and the government have always paid attention to synchronously implementing the task of socio-economic development associated with national defense and security; effectively implementing the programs: “Border Guards (BĐBP) join hands to build new rural areas”; “Adopted children of border guard stations”, “Combination of military and civilian medicine”; “Border spring”… At the same time, proactively preventing and combating “peaceful evolution”, fighting to defeat the plots and sabotage activities of hostile forces, maintaining political stability, not allowing passivity and surprise. Vinh Xuong commune coordinated with Vinh Xuong International Border Gate Border Guard Station to successfully complete political tasks; advised and closely coordinated with the town's departments and branches to propagate and educate to raise awareness and responsibility for the masses in the task of protecting national sovereignty and border security”.

According to its authority, Vinh Xuong Commune Police signed a 3-party coordination plan (with the Commune Military Command and Vinh Xuong International Border Gate Border Guard Station) to join hands in protecting the border, political security, order, and social safety. “We organize regular monthly patrols to ensure security and order, during peak holidays and Tet. In 2024, the forces conducted 725 patrols, with nearly 3,000 officers and soldiers participating; detected, recorded and decided to administratively sanction 76 cases of not wearing helmets; cleared 28 cases of encroachment on the sidewalk, 10 groups of young people gathering late at night; invited 38 subjects to take drug tests, discovered 19 positive cases; sent 5 cases to compulsory drug rehabilitation, sanctioned 8 cases of administrative violations. The security and order situation in the commune and on the border was maintained, no hotspots emerged. The above results show the effective coordination, consensus and determination of the forces to carry out their tasks” – Major Tran Vu Phuong (Deputy Head of Vinh Xuong Commune Police) said.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Hiep (Party Secretary, Political Commissar of the Border Guard, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Border Guard Day Steering Committee) commented that thanks to the support of local Party committees, authorities and people, Border Guard officers and soldiers effectively deployed all aspects of border work on the border of An Giang in general and Vinh Xuong in particular. That solidarity and joint efforts also helped Vinh Xuong commune develop its economy, culture and society, through the movements "The whole country joins hands for the poor - No one is left behind", "Accompanying women in the border areas"..., with extremely practical works and tasks to care for the lives of people in the border area. In particular, Vinh Xuong commune continues to maintain the criteria of a new rural area. The border guard station, Party committees, authorities and people of the commune have many cultural - artistic, physical training and sports exchange activities, creating a joyful, exciting and united atmosphere.

Typically, in 2024, the People's Committee of Hamlet 5 coordinated with the Border Guard to organize 8 propaganda sessions, attracting 255 people to participate; repaired roads, cut tree branches... creating conditions for people to conveniently travel to the fields and do daily activities. "Hamlet 5 is a border hamlet, with many trails and openings. Most people work for a living on the border. From the border belt, there are about 600 - 700m without street lights... These difficulties have somewhat affected the management and protection of the border. In the coming time, we will continue to coordinate with the Border Guard to propagate to raise people's awareness, especially vigilance against the trick of "easy work, high salary", prevent and combat crimes of all kinds; properly implement the policies of the Party and State in the border area" - Mr. Phan Van Nuoi (Party Cell Secretary, Head of the People's Committee of Hamlet 5) expressed.

Having lived in this land for many generations, Mr. Bui Van Nien (Hamlet 4) clearly understands the importance of protecting the land and homeland. From that awareness, he has become a typical citizen, actively participating in the movement to protect national border security and sovereignty with all his ability and strength. He shared: “In addition to strictly following the provisions of the law, I also encourage my relatives and farmers around me to follow suit. Whenever they see suspicious strangers appearing in the border area, people quickly inform the Hamlet People's Committee, Commune Police, Border Guard Station, etc. This spirit is highly promoted in the prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic, at the end of the year, when criminals are often active.”
