National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue arrives in Jakarta, begins official visit to the Republic of Indonesia and attends the 44th AIPA General Assembly

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue's official visit to Indonesia demonstrates Vietnam's respect and support for Indonesia and Speaker of the House of Representatives Puan Maharani personally ahead of the 44th AIPA General Assembly and during the ASEAN Chairmanship year 2023.

At exactly 9:50 a.m. on August 4, Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly arrived at Soekarno Hatta International Airport in Jakarta, starting an official visit to Indonesia and attending the 44th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Southeast Asian Nations (AIPA-44), at the invitation of the President of the People's Representative Council (Lower House) of the Republic of Indonesia, AIPA President Puan Maharani. Welcoming National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and the delegation at the airport were Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee of the Indonesian House of Representatives Fadli Zon; Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam Denny Abdi; Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Ta Van Thong; Ambassador, Head of the Vietnamese Delegation to ASEAN Nguyen Hai Bang and officials of the Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia. This is the first official visit to Indonesia by Comrade Vuong Dinh Hue as Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam, and the first visit by a Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman to Indonesia in 13 years (National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong officially visited Indonesia in 2010); this is an important event taking place in the context of the two countries practically celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Strategic Partnership (2013-2023), towards the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025 (1955-2025).

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue's official visit to Indonesia demonstrates Vietnam's respect and support for Indonesia and Speaker of the House of Representatives Puan Maharani personally ahead of the 44th AIPA General Assembly and during the ASEAN Chairmanship Year 2023; making an important contribution to strengthening relations and political trust, and the relationship between the two peoples; and consolidating and deepening the traditional friendship and strategic partnership between the two countries, making them more practical and effective.

During his official visit to Indonesia, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue is expected to hold talks and meetings with senior Indonesian leaders, aiming to contribute to strengthening the good cooperative relations between the two countries in general and the relations between the two legislative bodies in particular in the coming time, both within the bilateral and multilateral frameworks; exchange opinions on international and regional issues of mutual interest. During the visit, the National Assembly Chairman will attend a number of cultural, economic and foreign affairs activities.

After an official visit to Indonesia, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue led a high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly to attend the 44th AIPA General Assembly in Indonesia.

The theme of the 44th AIPA General Assembly is “Responsive Parliaments for a Stable and Prosperous ASEAN”. This theme is closely linked and consistent with the general theme of ASEAN this year, which is “One ASEAN of stature: The heart of growth”. In which, the adaptability of parliaments of ASEAN member countries is highlighted in the context of many fluctuations in the international and regional context; dialogue and consultation are emphasized, coordination and connection between the executive and legislative channels are enhanced, contributing to strengthening solidarity, unity and the central role of ASEAN. The choice of the theme of the AIPA General Assembly this time reflects the consistent message of AIPA as well as the desire of the host country Indonesia, which is to highlight the role of AIPA and parliaments of member countries in promoting peace, security, growth, strengthening resilience and sustainable, inclusive development of the region, making ASEAN the heart of growth and leaving no one behind.
