National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man receives Korean Ambassador to Vietnam

On the afternoon of August 5, at the National Assembly House, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Vietnam Choi Young Sam who came to greet him on the occasion of his new assignment in Vietnam.

Through the Ambassador, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man conveyed his thanks to Prime Minister Han Duck Soo - Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Korea - for leading the Korean delegation to pay their respects to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. This demonstrates the sincere sentiments of the Korean Government and people towards the Government and people of Vietnam and the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong himself.

The National Assembly Chairman stated that the Vietnam-Korea relationship is developing very well. In December 2022, the two countries upgraded their relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, showing that the cooperation between Vietnam and Korea is developing in many aspects: economy, trade, industry, services, tourism, labor cooperation, etc. The National Assembly Chairman also highly appreciated the role of Ambassador Choi Young Sam in connecting for Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to Korea in early July 2024.

The National Assembly Chairman affirmed that developing relations with South Korea is a top priority in Vietnam's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification. South Korea is currently a major investor in Vietnam. The two-way trade target between Vietnam and South Korea is about 100 billion USD by 2025 and 150 billion USD by 2030. To achieve these goals, the National Assembly Chairman said that the two sides need to strive vigorously with specific solutions, prioritizing the fields of economics, trade, import and export... The Vietnamese National Assembly will issue mechanisms and preferential policies to attract investment not only for Korean enterprises but also for enterprises around the world to invest and do business in Vietnam; and monitor the agreements and documents signed between the two countries.

Considering that Korea's strengths are high-tech industry, semiconductor technology, education, healthcare, etc., the National Assembly Chairman suggested continuing to promote cooperation between the two countries in these fields.

In particular, the Vietnamese community in Korea is about 270,000 people, the Korean community in Vietnam is about 200,000 people; this is a bridge for good relations between the two countries. The Vietnamese government always creates favorable conditions for Koreans in Vietnam to live, study and work.

The National Assembly Chairman suggested that in the coming time, the two countries should increase exchanges and delegations at all levels and high levels, further consolidate trust and mutual understanding between the two countries and the two National Assemblies, including exchanges between the two Friendship Parliamentarian Groups, exchanges between female parliamentarians and young parliamentarians of the two countries; share experiences in the fields of legislation and supervision...

Korean Ambassador to Vietnam Choi Young Sam agreed that the Vietnam-Korea relationship is developing brilliantly; affirmed that he will make every effort to promote the cooperation between the two countries to develop more substantially; and strengthen political trust through promoting high-level exchanges and exchanges between the two countries' National Assemblies.

According to Ambassador Choi Young Sam, economic cooperation is a pillar in the relationship between the two countries; the Korean government and businesses are interested in promoting investment in Vietnam in the fields of high technology, semiconductor technology... The Ambassador expressed his hope that in the coming time, the Vietnamese National Assembly will issue mechanisms and policies, creating favorable conditions for Korean businesses to invest and do business in Vietnam; creating favorable conditions for the Korean community living, studying and working in Vietnam while promoting the implementation of cooperation projects in which Korea has strengths and Vietnam has needs, such as clean energy, renewable energy, semiconductors, high-tech electronics...
