Continuing the program of visiting and wishing a Happy New Year 2024, on the morning of January 26, from Vung Tau City, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, President Vo Van Thuong and the working delegation went to the Central Drilling Rig of Cuu Long Joint Operating Company (abbreviated as Cuu Long JOC), visited, encouraged, wished a Happy New Year, and worked with officers and engineers working on the rig, who represent 60,000 officers and workers in the oil and gas industry.

Established in 1998, after 25 years of operation, Cuu Long Joint Venture Operating Company has exploited more than 415 million barrels of oil, with total revenue of more than 30 billion USD, paid nearly 14 billion USD to the state budget, maintaining its position as the second largest oil and gas contractor in Vietnam.
The leader of Cuu Long JOC Company expressed that for those working in the oil and gas sector, especially those on the rigs at the forefront of the storm, today is a special day when President Vo Van Thuong, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, visited, worked, wished a happy new year, and encouraged them. This is a great source of motivation for the Company to strive to best fulfill the mission of "fire seekers"; soon reaching the milestone of exploiting 500 million barrels of oil in the near future; and also a great source of encouragement for the 60,000 employees of the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group.

Speaking here, President Vo Van Thuong sent his warmest regards and best wishes for the New Year to all officers and workers of the Central Drilling Rig of Cuu Long JOC in particular and the entire oil and gas industry in general. The President expressed that the visit and New Year greetings of the President and the Central leaders at the Drilling Rig this time was a very special, emotional and memorable trip, meaningful during the traditional New Year of the nation.
The President was pleased to note that, starting with only 31 personnel, of which 1/3 were foreign experts, up to now, out of a total of 350 officers, engineers, and workers on the entire rig, Vietnamese people have accounted for 94%; of which, 100% of the operating team on Cuu Long JOC's offshore projects are Vietnamese. What impressed the President after visiting and talking with the officers and engineers on the rig was that although they were young, their professional knowledge was diverse, they had the ability to access international oil and gas exploitation technology, and the technologies being applied on the rig were also among the world's leading.
According to the President, the important thing besides economic development is to contribute significantly to the protection of sovereignty, sovereign rights, and jurisdiction. Oil and gas exploration and exploitation activities have special significance, multi-purpose, both economic and affirming the protection of the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
With 415 million barrels of oil exploited, the President highly appreciated Cuu Long JOC for its important contributions to the oil and gas industry and the national budget. The efforts of the Company and many other units of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group have contributed positively to the impressive results that the Group has achieved in recent times. In particular, in 2023, the Group was one of the state-owned enterprises that completed financial and output targets earlier than planned, with revenue of nearly 1 million billion VND.
According to the President, the results achieved in 2023 by the entire industry have brought pride to those working in the oil and gas industry. The success of joint venture contractors such as Cuu Long JOC Company can be considered a typical example of international cooperation, bringing national benefits, bringing confidence to foreign partners, thereby contributing to training the industry's staff, gradually replacing foreigners in mastering technology.
Following those successes, to continue to overcome challenges, surpass themselves, and reap successes, the President asked the cadres and employees of the entire Oil and Gas industry to maintain the spirit and will of "oil and gas people", and be proud of the spirit and will of "fire seekers". Not afraid of hardships and sacrifices, ready to devote themselves to contribute more and more to the country. The President hopes that, with the new spirit and new will of the new year, the cadres and employees of the Group will surpass the results achieved "so that each time we meet again, we will make more progress".
Impressed by the oil and gas workers who are working day and night at sea, the President hopes that officers and employees will maintain labor discipline at sea, ensure health and safety, and strictly follow work procedures to always have joy when changing shifts.
Emphasizing that oil and gas exploration and exploitation is a very special field, the President requested that cadres, party members, and employees of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group thoroughly understand that economic development is always associated with ensuring national defense and security, and ensuring national defense and security is always associated with economic development.
Through exploration and exploitation activities at sea as well as in other fields, the President requested that the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group have a strategic plan for training staff for the industry, retaining talented people, and continuing to develop the Group strongly.
Requesting relevant ministries and branches to promptly study and resolve the Group's proposal and share with the officers and employees working and celebrating Tet on the rigs in difficult and deprived conditions, the President requested the leaders of Cuu Long JOC and the leaders of the rigs to focus on caring for the material and spiritual lives of the workers so that they can celebrate Tet happily and warmly.
