On the morning of March 6, at the Opera House, Hanoi, President Vo Van Thuong attended the 10th People's Artist and Meritorious Artist Award Ceremony.
Also attending were Politburo member, Permanent Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man; Party Central Committee Secretary, Head of the Party Central Committee's Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia; Party Central Committee member, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha; leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, central departments, ministries, branches, and organizations, along with artists and relatives of artists who were awarded the title this time.
Presenting the title of People's Artist at the ceremony, with respect and admiration, President Vo Van Thuong sent the artists and their families his warmest regards and best wishes.
President Vo Van Thuong stated that the history of building and defending the country for thousands of years of the Vietnamese people can be considered the history of the formation and development of culture and art. Through labor, building and defending the country, the Vietnamese people have created good cultural values and unique art forms to reflect the rhythms of labor, solidarity, love, courage in fighting against natural disasters, enemies and beautiful dreams about life. Culture and art from a form of social consciousness has transformed into a material strength to help our people overcome countless difficulties and challenges, defeat all invaders, liberate the country, bring the country together, heal the wounds of war, build new people, new lives.
Referring to the endless source of inspiration for the artists, which is the nearly 40-year renovation career and the great achievements of historical significance of the country, the President appreciated that artists in each art form with their own language and method of expression have created many good works, making the cultural and artistic life increasingly colorful, vividly reflecting the great renovation practice of the country, nurturing the soul, guiding people to the good values of truth, goodness and beauty, contributing significantly to building the spiritual foundation of society.
The President acknowledged and highly appreciated the creative spirit of generations of artists. The Party, the State and the people have had many forms of recognition and honor for artists. The titles of “People’s Artist” and “Meritorious Artist” are honorable and noble titles of the Party and the State given to individuals who have made many contributions and have been long-term attached to the fields of culture and art; have intelligence and dignity, wholeheartedly, wholeheartedly, and devotedly serve the people, contribute to the revolutionary cause; and are well-received, loved and admired by the public.
The President emphasized that People's Artists and Meritorious Artists are truly "valuable assets of the country", regardless of age or ethnicity, they have all made valuable contributions to Vietnamese culture, contributing significantly to the great achievements of historical significance of the country.
“In this solemn ceremony, we together pay tribute to generations of talented artists who have devoted and sacrificed for the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation; together we express our most precious, deepest, and most sincere feelings to artists who are always dedicated and devoted to their profession, with their artistic talent and love for humanity, love for the country, responsibility for the Fatherland and the people, persistently working and creating, actively contributing to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland; among them, there are artists who are no longer here to hear their names called at this honoring ceremony,” said the President.
The President stated that the country is in a new stage of development with increasingly high potential, position and international prestige, a vision and aspiration for a prosperous and happy country, which requires strongly promoting the strength of Vietnamese culture and people. Culture plays a role as the spiritual foundation of society, an important pillar in sustainable development, in which art is "a very important and especially delicate field of culture, an essential need, expressing the human aspiration for truth, goodness and beauty; one of the great driving forces directly contributing to building the spiritual foundation of society and the comprehensive development of Vietnamese people".
With that importance, the President set the task for this field as promoting the good values of Vietnamese culture, cultivating the qualities of Vietnamese citizens and people in the new era, encouraging aspirations and will to rise up, arousing optimism, passion for work, responsibility, discipline, and creativity; promoting national pride, the spirit of great solidarity, the will to be self-reliant and self-reliant, and the aspiration to develop Vietnam to become increasingly prosperous and the society to become more civilized and progressive.
The President advised the cultural and artistic community to constantly innovate and experiment with new methods of expression suitable for Vietnamese culture, reaching out to the region and the world, producing many good works that convey humane and beautiful values, meeting the people's increasing demand for cultural enjoyment, narrowing the gap in cultural enjoyment between urban and rural areas, between regions, creating strong changes in social development management, implementing social progress and justice, improving the quality of life and happiness index of Vietnamese people.
President Vo Van Thuong emphasized that our Party and State always affirm: "Literary and artistic talents are the precious assets of the nation", taking care to discover, nurture, respect and promote literary and artistic talents is the responsibility of the whole society. The President requested agencies, organizations, ministries, branches and localities to continue to deeply understand the role of culture and arts and artists; continue to care for, encourage and motivate the country's cultural and artistic workforce to promote their talents, artistic creativity, passionately contribute to their social responsibilities and civic duties, and contribute more to the cause of developing an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity, building and defending the Fatherland.
In addition, there should be appropriate policies to take care of artists, ensuring that artists can make a living from their profession. Attention should be paid to nurturing young talents, especially in traditional art fields that are lacking in the next generation.
The President noted the need to respect the characteristics of artistic creativity and creative freedom of artists, and promote a healthy democratic life. Create favorable conditions and environments, encourage artists to penetrate reality, engage in the vast and vivid realities of social life, explore and exploit the values and beauty of the country and people of Vietnam, bring traditional art forward with the times, spread the love of life and the beautiful and great aspirations of the entire nation. Along with that, encourage artists to participate in foreign cultural activities, bring the image of the country and people of Vietnam to international friends, enhance the attractiveness of Vietnamese national culture, absorb the quintessence of human culture, and enrich the richness of Vietnamese culture.
In particular, it is necessary to promptly honor and reward artists for their contributions and work. Carefully review and consider awarding the title of People's Artist and Meritorious Artist to artists with outstanding artistic talent who are worthy but have not been honored.
The President believes that generations of artists with rich and diverse creative abilities, passionate love for the Fatherland, and deep attachment to the people and the cause of innovation led by the Party will create many good works of high ideological and artistic value, of great significance to the times, building a spiritual and social foundation, making even greater contributions to the nation's journey forward.
At the 10th People's Artist and Meritorious Artist Award Ceremony, the President signed a Decision to award and posthumously award the title of "People's Artist" to 125 Meritorious Artists; and award and posthumously award the title of "Meritorious Artist" to 264 artists.
Among them, the oldest People's Artist is artist Hung Minh, a reformed opera actor in Ho Chi Minh City, born in 1930; the youngest are artists Hoai Thu (Hanoi Cheo Theatre), Ho Ngoc Trinh (Long An Reformed Opera Theatre, born in 1984). The oldest Meritorious Artist is artist Nguyen Quy Hai (Army Drama Theatre, born in 1932); the youngest is artist Vu Thanh Tuan (Vietnam Circus Federation, born in 1990).
The work of awarding the titles "People's Artist" and "Meritorious Artist" has contributed to motivating and encouraging artists, especially young artists, to be passionate about creating and performing arts, creating many valuable programs, plays and performances to serve the people.
