After 4 consecutive years of decline, Vietnam's tea market share in Taiwan (China) has increased again.
The Import and Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) cited data from the Taiwan Customs Agency (China) saying that imports of tea (HS 0902) and tea extract products (HS 210120) into the Taiwan market (China) in 2024 reached 29.57 thousand tons, with a value of 93.72 million USD, down 1.2% in volume and 2.4% in value compared to 2023. This is also the third consecutive year of decline.

In 2024, the volume of black tea (HS 090230, 090240) imported into the Taiwan market (China) will reach 18.70 thousand tons, with a value of 48.64 million USD, down 4.1% in volume and 3.4% in value compared to 2023. The average import price of black tea will reach 3,170 USD/ton, up 0.7% compared to 2023.
In terms of volume, Vietnam is the largest supplier of black tea to the Taiwanese market (China). Notably, while imports from other key markets such as Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, etc. have decreased for many consecutive years, black tea imports from Vietnam in 2024 increased again, reaching 7.97 thousand tons, with a value of 12.47 million USD, up 0.9% in both volume and value compared to 2023.
The volume of green tea (HS 090201, 090202) imported into the Taiwan market (China) in 2024 increased again after 2 consecutive years of decline, reaching 9.03 thousand tons, with a value of 29.615 million USD, up 2.1% in volume, but down 2.2% in value compared to 2023. The average import price of green tea reached 3,281 USD/ton, down 2.1%.
Vietnam and Japan are the two main markets supplying green tea to the Taiwanese market (China), accounting for about 95% of the total volume. In terms of volume, Vietnam is the largest supplier, but the import volume tends to decrease in the period 2015 - 2023, from 89.3% in 2015 to 75.0% in 2023.
In 2024, while the amount of green tea imported from Vietnam increased again after 2 consecutive years of decline, bringing the proportion up to 76.5%, imports from Japan turned to decrease after 8 consecutive years of growth, bringing the proportion down to 18.7%.
In 2024, imports of extracts and preparations from tea essence extracts (HS 210120) into the Taiwan market (China) increased sharply, reaching 1.84 thousand tons, with a value of 15.47 million USD, an increase of 16.3% in volume and 0.2% in value compared to 2023.
Imports of extracts and preparations from tea essence extracts from Vietnam to the Taiwanese market (China) currently account for only a small proportion (less than 1%), reaching 12 tons, with a value of 142 thousand USD in 2024, an increase of 39.9% in volume and 21.4% in value compared to 2023.
Thus, after 4 consecutive years of decline, Vietnam's tea market share in the Taiwanese market (China) has increased again, accounting for 76.5% of the total green tea volume and 42.6% of the total black tea volume imported into this market in 2024.
