( Bqp.vn ) - On the morning of December 17, in Kochi city (Kerala state, India), the Vietnam Coast Guard and the Indian Coast Guard Region 4 discussed and agreed on a joint training plan on search and rescue, fire prevention and fighting, and oil spill response at sea. Brigadier General N Ravi, Commander of the Indian Coast Guard Region 4 chaired the meeting.
Attending the meeting were Colonel Nguyen Minh Khanh, Deputy Commander, Chief of Staff of Coast Guard Region 3; members of the Vietnam Coast Guard Delegation and the Indian Coast Guard Region 4.

The joint exercise aims to share experiences and enhance coordination between the Vietnam Coast Guard and the Indian Coast Guard in handling emergency situations at sea, focusing on deploying vehicles and personnel to participate in rescue, search and rescue and handling serious incidents such as fires or oil spills at sea in a timely, safe and effective manner. The joint exercise will help officers and soldiers of the Coast Guard of both sides to perfect the coordination process in the field, enhance communication, coordinate forces and effectively use specialized equipment.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed and finalized the joint exercise plan, including a number of contents, such as: Maneuvering time, siren signals, distance between ships during longitudinal and transverse maneuvers; side-by-side position, manoeuvring speed, rescue situation handling procedures, emergency situation forecasts; procedures for implementing response plans for fires, explosions and oil spills at sea; coordination in fighting and handling crimes at sea; plan to use helicopters of the Indian Coast Guard to participate in rescues; communication assurance work, number of directly participating personnel.

With experience in responding to emergency situations at sea, the Vietnam Coast Guard delegation has proposed many detailed plans for coordination in search and rescue and incident handling at sea, notably using simulated situations simulating incidents of different scales, thereby contributing to enhancing the coordination and deployment of rescue forces of both sides in a flexible and realistic manner. The joint exercise plan proposed by the Vietnam Coast Guard was highly appreciated by the professional agency of the Indian Coast Guard. The realistic scenarios in search, rescue, and incident response at sea deployed by both sides this time are both an important foundation to help improve the coordination between the two forces, and contribute to ensuring absolute safety for people, weapons and equipment during the joint exercise.
