According to Ha Nam Provincial Police, recently, the police force and functional agencies have continuously warned about the form of fraud that is flourishing in many big cities.
The subjects often impersonate police officers, prosecutors, courts, tax authorities or public services... to contact customers in many forms such as: calling, texting or adding friends via social networks, "chat" applications, using the excuse of supporting tax settlement, supporting tax refund procedures, verifying public service accounts... to request information updates.
Then, the subjects provide fake application download links, entice, threaten, and force mobile phone users to click on the links and install software and applications containing malicious code.
After users install it, these fake applications containing malicious code will ask for "accessibility permissions" to allow access to the device such as: viewing the screen, actions, input data, controlling the screen... and proceed to monitor, collect, and steal all personal information on the phone such as: Login name, password, bank transaction authentication code sent to the phone (OTP SMS/OTP Safekey)...
At the appropriate time, the subjects will take control of the device and access banking applications to transfer money and appropriate money from the user's bank account.
Notably, mobile phones with fake applications installed will show many suspicious signs such as: The phone's battery runs out quickly and runs slowly, strange applications appear on the phone, applications automatically pop up even when the phone is not in use, mobile traffic suddenly decreases quickly, the phone heats up abnormally...
The police agency recommends that people need to be vigilant and take some measures: Immediately turn off "accessibility rights" for applications, thereby being able to promptly prevent and minimize fraudsters from gaining access and controlling the phone.
Only download and install applications on CH Play (Android operating system) or App Store (IOS operating system). Absolutely do not click on links sent via messages or social networks from unverified sources, and do not install applications of unknown origin.
Do not answer calls or follow requests from strangers claiming to be tax officers, police officers, public services... in any form.
Police, prosecutors, courts and state agencies, if working with citizens, will have invitations and summonses sent to that person and work directly at the agency headquarters, not online.
You should use biometric account protection methods such as fingerprints, FaceID... to log in to banking applications and other payment applications. In particular, you should not save banking service security information on software and applications on your phone.
In case of receiving messages on social networking platforms and unusual calls, showing signs of fraud, people need to report to the police to prevent and handle promptly according to the provisions of law.
