Apple yesterday (March 5) launched a new MacBook Air model with a modern M4 chip and artificial intelligence (AI) features, while reducing the price by $100 (equivalent to VND 2.5 million) compared to the previous generation to boost sales and convince customers to upgrade their devices.
The base model of Apple's new laptop line with a 13-inch screen starts at $999, while the 15-inch MacBook Air starts at $1,199. Pre-orders began yesterday and the devices will be available in stores from March 12.
Apple launches MacBook Air with M4 chip, priced from $999 (about 25 million VND).
The introduction of artificial intelligence-powered personal computers is expected to fuel the PC market's recovery this year after a post-pandemic slump.
Apple Intelligence is a suite of features with ChatGPT access, allowing users to write emails, messages, and edit photos, among other capabilities.
This suite of AI features debuted on Apple iPhone devices late last year, and the company has been rolling out the tools in different languages and regions to attract more users.
Apple's Mac sales in the holiday quarter reached $8.99 billion, beating analysts' estimates of $7.96 billion, according to data compiled by LSEG.
Also yesterday, Apple announced the M3 Ultra processor, which promises to deliver superior performance compared to previous generations of Apple silicon chips.
This new processor will be offered as an option on Apple's new Mac Studio product, allowing it to run large language models with more than 600 billion parameters right in the computer.
The new Mac Studio line, aimed at AI developers, video and photo editors, will start at $1,999.
Mac Studio with M3 Ultra chip will come with at least 96 gigabytes of memory, while computer with M4 Max chip will start at 36 gigabytes of memory.
Apple's M4 chip has a 10-core CPU, up to a 10-core GPU, and supports up to 32GB of unified memory. Apple says the MacBook Air M4 is twice as fast as the MacBook Air M1.
With Apple Intelligence on board, users can perform some pretty cool tricks, including removing unwanted people or objects from your photos with the Clean Up tool, automatically formatting data into tables, or creating images on the fly with Image Playground and adding them to presentations.
