Severe weather warning in the North

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has just issued a warning bulletin of dangerous weather due to severe cold and localized heavy rain in the Northern and Central regions, from the night of January 21.

Accordingly, in the past 24 hours, the mountainous areas of the North have experienced severe cold, with some places experiencing severe cold.

The lowest temperature in the North during this cold spell is commonly 7-10 degrees Celsius, in the mountainous areas of the North it is 3-6 degrees Celsius, and in some high mountainous areas it is below 0 degrees Celsius.

It is forecasted that due to the influence of the cold air strengthening, from the night of January 21, the North and Thanh Hoa will experience severe cold. From the night of January 22, the area from Nghe An to Ha Tinh will experience severe cold.

The widespread cold spell in the North and Thanh Hoa is forecast to last until around January 25; in Nghe An and Ha Tinh it is likely to last until January 24.

The lowest temperature in the North is commonly 7-10 degrees Celsius, in the mountainous areas of the North it is from 3-6 degrees Celsius, in the high mountainous areas it is below 0 degrees Celsius; in the North Central region it is commonly 9-11 degrees Celsius.

The meteorological agency warned that the cold weather could affect people's health; the cold weather combined with rain could affect sightseeing, tourism activities, and the safety of vehicles participating in traffic.

Cold weather can affect livestock and poultry; greatly affecting the growth and development of crops.

Also this afternoon, the meteorological agency informed about thunderstorms and heavy rain in the Central region.

According to information from the meteorological agency, on the afternoon of January 21, a strong cold air mass in the North is strengthening and moving south.

It is forecasted that from the afternoon and night of January 22, Ha Tinh to Quang Ngai will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall of 20-40mm, some places over 50mm.

Thunderstorms may produce tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind. Localized heavy rains may cause flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes and flooding in low-lying areas.
