Spokesperson for the Russian Investigative Committee Svetlana Petrenko said that the assassination of Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov - Commander of the Russian Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defense Forces occurred on the morning of February 17 (local time).
The bomb used to assassinate General Kirillov was planted inside a scooter parked near the entrance to an apartment building on Ryazansky Avenue in Moscow.
The investigation agency representative revealed that the bomb that assassinated General Kirillov used 200 grams of TNT. The shock wave from the explosion collapsed the wall of the apartment building and shattered the windows of neighboring houses. General Kirillov and his assistant were both killed later.
Russian security forces are analyzing video footage from surveillance cameras near the entrance to the building where the attack occurred.
"Video footage of the scene of the explosion on Ryazansky Prospekt has been collected," the representative said, adding that experts have begun assessing the evidence.
Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov (54 years old) has been the leader of the Russian Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defense Forces since 2017. Mr. Igor Kirillov is notable for his role as a military official who regularly publishes reports accusing Ukraine and the US of using chemical weapons in the conflict with Russia.
He has also published evidence of a large-scale network of US-run biological laboratories in Ukraine and elsewhere, which he said posed a serious threat to ordinary people.
Meanwhile, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) accused Russia of using chemical weapons against the Ukrainian army. The SBU also considered General Igor Kirillov as the main suspect.
