Schools adjust exam subject combinations and admission methods

In 2025 university admissions, schools are expected to make some adjustments to match the 2018 general education program.

University Admissions 2025: Change in exam subject combinations

Talking to Dan Viet Newspaper, Master Pham Thai Son, Director of the Admissions and Communications Center, said: "Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade (HUIT) is considering 5 new admission combinations, including 4 group C combinations. This change is to create conditions for candidates with a group C foundation to access many majors and professions of the school.

The added combinations are C00 (Literature, History, Geography), C01 (Literature, Mathematics, Physics), C02 (Literature, Mathematics, Chemistry), C14 (Math, Literature, Economic and Legal Education), mainly in the group of law, business administration, and hotel. In addition, the school also added another combination of three subjects: Mathematics, Information Technology, and English. This is the first combination to appear, because the new general education program has Information Technology. The school uses this combination to consider admission to the majors of Information Technology, Information Security, and Data Science.

The school is expected to reserve a maximum of 20% of its quota for considering academic transcript scores in the 2025 enrollment year, a 10% decrease compared to 2024. The school is expected to continue to reserve 50-60% of its quota for admission based on high school graduation scores in 2025. The remaining quota will be for direct admission; consideration of capacity assessment scores of Ho Chi Minh City National University; consideration of specialized capacity assessment scores of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education.

From 2025, the National Economics University will make adjustments to comply with the requirements of the high school graduation exam according to the 2018 general education program.

Accordingly, the school only considers 4 groups: A00 (Math, Physics, Chemistry), A01 (Math, Physics, English), D01 (Math, Literature, English) and D07 (Math, Chemistry, English); does not consider groups B00 (Math, Chemistry, Biology), C03 (Math, Literature, History), C04 (Math, Literature, Geography), D09 (Math, English, History), D10 (Math, English, Geography). The quota for considering high school graduation exam results is reduced by 3% from 18% in 2024 to 15% in 2025. This quota is included in the school's separate admission method according to the school's project from 80% in 2024 to 83% in 2025.

The school also officially recruits high-quality majors in parallel with standard majors. That is, high-quality majors also recruit according to the same methods and announce standard scores from the beginning as standard majors.

Reduce and eliminate the criteria for considering academic records

The University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University) announced its plan for regular university admission in 2025 with 3 admission methods. Method 3: Admission based on high school graduation exam results in 2025 (30% - 50% of total target)

The school also announced 4 subject combinations for admission, including:

The 2025 enrollment plan was developed by the school to select excellent candidates, ensuring input quality consistent with the school's training requirements and meeting the strict demands of the labor market.

The school will announce the detailed 2025 enrollment plan before February 2025. In case the Ministry of Education and Training and Ho Chi Minh City National University issue new enrollment regulations, the school will update and adjust the enrollment plan in accordance with the regulations.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Education said that from 2025, the school will maintain three main admission methods: Considering high school graduation exam scores (40-50% of the target); organizing and considering specialized competency assessment test scores (40-50% of the target by major); direct admission and priority admission (10-15% of the target).

Thus, from 2025, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education will eliminate the combined consideration with academic transcripts and the specialized competency assessment test scores organized by the school. Instead, this exam will be used for independent admission for more than 30 majors of the school.

Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine increased the enrollment quota for some majors such as Traditional Medicine, up 20%; Nursing, up 10%; Pharmacy, up 30% compared to the enrollment quota in 2024. The school implements 6 admission methods including: High school graduation exam results; Direct admission according to the regulations of the admission regulations; Using the results of the capacity assessment test, thinking assessment organized by other units for admission; Using only international certificates for admission; Combining high school graduation exam results with international certificates for admission; Using other methods. The school said that it will not apply Foreign Language in the secondary criteria when considering equal scores like in 2024 and earlier.

Nha Trang University recruits students based on the combination of high school academic results and university academic ability assessment results. With the academic results, for each major and training major of the school, candidates must study a certain number of subjects in high school according to regulations. The results of these subjects must meet the minimum requirements announced by the school every year. With the results of university academic ability assessment, for each major and training major of the school, candidates must also participate in the university academic ability assessment.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, from 2025, the high school graduation exam will have many changes. It is expected that all candidates will be able to register online, including independent candidates.

Regarding the exam subjects, each candidate takes 4 subjects, including 2 compulsory subjects: literature and math, and 2 subjects that candidates choose from the remaining subjects studied in grade 12 (forming 36 subject combinations).
