In addition to admiring the blooming cotton flowers, visitors can combine a visit to Bich Dong, a famous scenic spot with the title "Nam Thien De Nhi Dong" which is very famous in Ninh Binh.
According to history, Bich Dong Pagoda was formed in 1428 and was just a small pagoda on the top of a high mountain. In 1705, during the reign of King Le Du Tong, two monks with the dharma names Tri Kien and Tri The met and became sworn brothers.

Through that, both monks were devout, vowing to travel together to many places to spread Buddhism and build pagodas. When they saw that Bich Dong had a beautiful location and a pagoda, the two monks decided to stop and renovate this old pagoda.
In the year of Giap Ngo 1774, Lord Trinh Sam visited the pagoda, saw the panoramic view of mountains, caves, rivers, fields, and trees all green, the pagoda seemed to converge with the green background of the pagoda, so he named the pagoda Bich Dong.
Bich Dong Pagoda is an ancient pagoda belonging to the Trang An scenic complex which has been ranked as a special national monument and recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site in 2014.
