The female artist who is closely associated with Trinh Cong Son's music shared: "We are simply all small fates in this vast universe, without needing colorful labels or other distinctions."

Giang Trang has become a familiar name to online music listeners, especially those who love Trinh Cong Son's music. She is one of the contemporary artists who successfully expresses the inner philosophies closest to the spirit of the author Trinh Cong Son.

Resonance in lyrics and music

Before being admired by many people through her debut CD "Lenh dang nho pho" and two concerts on the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of musician Trinh Cong Son's birth (February 28, 1939 - February 28, 2011), when she was still a student at the Foreign Trade University, Giang Trang was already a known singer at Nhac Tranh - a familiar music venue for Hanoi students in the early years of the 21st century.

In 2001, Giang Trang first appeared at Nhac Tranh in a concert commemorating the 100th day of musician Trinh Cong Son's death. Since then, Nhac Tranh has become the first venue in Hanoi to regularly organize Trinh music performances.

Previously, this place was famous for its weekly classical guitar nights with leading names such as Hai Thoai, Van Vuong, Pham Van Phuc, Quang Ton. Some young classical guitar artists at that time such as Quang Vinh, Nguyet Cam, Le Thu also grew up here.

Giang Trang’s style of performing Trinh’s music has quietly spread over many years as an “underground” stream on the internet, without the need for technology to release or promote. Her recordings are spontaneous, rustic and full of emotion.

In 2001 and 2007, Giang Trang's songs spread naturally on music sharing sites, helping her become one of Trinh Cong Son's favorite singers. What's special is that all of these recordings have never been officially released or advertised through any media channels.

Giang Trang's voice has a natural calmness and melancholy, naturally finding resonance in Trinh Cong Son's lyrics and music during those student years.

In 2019, the data "Lênh trôinh nhớ phố" was released by Sterlingsound (a record label that has collaborated with big names such as Adele, Michael Buble, Sam Smith...) in vinyl and 2-track tape formats, with the same name.

From the very beginning, Giang Trang has paid special attention to recording quality. All of her albums are made in “high-end” studios, ensuring quality for release on all formats, from CD, Reel-to-reel to Vinyl LP.

In 2017, all of the Ha Huyen data and part of the Lenh Dong Nho Pho data were used by the former French Ambassador to Vietnam, Jean-Noël Poirier, to make the soundtrack for the film Mon Hanoi (My Hanoi).

The film is not only a foreigner's perspective on Hanoi, but also a cultural and architectural perspective of a person who has lived in Hanoi for 9 years, shown on VTV channel, at the French Institute in Vietnam and many countries around the world.

The end is also the beginning

During 12 years of implementing her independent project, Giang Trang has performed in many provinces and cities in Vietnam as well as many cities and countries around the world: Paris (France), Munich (Germany), Budapest (Hungary), Tokyo (Japan), San Jose & California. Until now, she is still at ease in her own Trinh music world.

With Trinh Cuoi - the latest project takes material from Trinh Cong Son's music with thoughts and narratives about the times in a special period of history, renewed with the personal feelings of the next generation, in careful observation, understanding and empathy.

The album opens with the intro "You come from a thousand years ago" , followed by a series of Trinh songs: "Ve luan tram", "Mot gioi ve", "Con ai voi ai", "Xin mat troi ngu yen", "Hang pilgrim tren doi cao", "Loi o pho ve", "Vuon xua" .

The two parts of the album are connected by an Interlude (a transitional track) featuring trumpets and other instruments.

The special feature of this project is the combination of Giang Trang and the 58 music & lifestyle group including artists Phan Cuong (drums), Nguyen Van Tuan (bass), Bach Ngoc Vuong (piano, keyboard), Minh Nghia (trumpet), Liem Hieu (guitar), Le Thiet Cuong (stage director), Nguyen The Linh (sound engineer), Tu Phuong Thao (graphics and design).

Through the search and discovery of new musical materials, connecting memories with contemporary breath, Trinh's last album is urban and vibrant.

The artists tell stories of the streets in the transitional period, renewing a special musical portrait, exploring songs that have become symbols of Vietnamese urban life.

Trinh's last album also opened the door to a new path: Giang Trang continued to introduce to the public her own compositions and new music products with colleagues in Ho Chi Minh City.

The female artist confided: "Thank you Trinh Cong Son, a very special world that the more I live, the more I understand a few things about him."

From 2012 to present, Giang Trang has been supported by the French Institute in Hanoi and the French Embassy in her independent music project with Trinh Cong Son's musical materials, with 7 concepts that she directly came up with ideas for, organized production, and searched for talented artists to undertake: Floating Missing the Street (2012); Ha Huyen (2013); Chieu Qua Van Qua (2014); Ha Huyen 2 (2015); Nguyet Ha (2016); Nguyet Ha 2 (2018); Trinh Cuoi (2025).
