In an era of increasingly strong technological development, the creativity of the young generation increasingly affirms its important role in solving practical social problems.
Two of the young faces representing that creative spirit are Ho Pham Anh Quan and Ho Dinh Nguyen, students from the Math class at Thang Long High School for the Gifted, Lam Dong province, with a science and technology project called "SOS Locator".
This is an emergency rescue support software that applies artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT), aiming to reduce response time in emergency situations, especially when the victim cannot provide accurate information.
The "SOS Locator" project is not only a product of serious research and study, but also a clear demonstration of the students' constant creativity and passion in applying technology to life. This software system is designed with the goal of automatically determining the location of people in distress and sending warnings to authorities, contributing to minimizing damage to people and property in emergency incidents.
Anh Quan and Dinh Nguyen shared: “When starting the project, we always asked ourselves: How can we help people in distress as quickly as possible when they cannot provide accurate information? And that was the motivation for us to find a solution." After many months of testing and improvement, the software system was completed and successfully tested in November 2024. After that, we integrated AI image recognition technology so that the system can automatically record and detect images from emergency situations such as traffic accidents, fires, or other incidents via surveillance cameras. From there, the system can quickly send warnings to the authorities.
Anh Quan, who was working on his computer and phone to introduce the project to us, shared: “Not only is it a regular rescue software, "SOS Locator" is also considered a smart tool to support authorities in responding quickly and effectively. The recent update of the software has significantly improved the accuracy and reliability from actual tests. During the project, we also received great support from teachers and families. From there, the development and completion of the product has helped the system become more useful and reliable in emergency situations.”
When asked about the future direction of the project, Quan and Nguyen both affirmed: “We not only want to win the competition but also want to create a practical product that can help the community, protect people's lives and property. In particular, this is a completely free project and we not only hope that the "SOS Locator" project will be applied in Lam Dong but also hope that this system will be widely deployed in other localities across the country, contributing to improving the effectiveness of rescue work”. The project of Ho Pham Anh Quan and Ho Dinh Nguyen is a living testament to the creativity and enthusiasm of the young generation. They have overcome many challenges, constantly improving and perfecting the project to be able to bring a practical technological solution, meeting the practical needs of society.
The creativity and acumen of Anh Quan and Dinh Nguyen show that, in the context of the 4.0 Industrial Revolution, the young generation not only seizes opportunities but also plays an important role in developing new technologies to serve the community. With passion, perseverance and a sense of responsibility, young people can create highly applicable technological solutions, serving the community and solving urgent practical problems of society. In particular, with steady progress in the future, the "SOS Locator" project will continue to be completed and widely spread by the two students, contributing to protecting people's lives and property; at the same time, improving the effectiveness of search and rescue work in Vietnam.
Recording initial results, "SOS Locator" recently won the First Prize in the 17th Lam Dong Provincial Science and Technology Competition in 2024 and is currently preparing for the national competition taking place in mid-March 2025.
According to the Jury, the project of Ho Pham Anh Quan and Ho Dinh Nguyen is highly practical, with thoughtful and scientific solutions. The students have researched and developed the project themselves, achieving a self-research rate of up to 75 - 95%, which demonstrates their initiative, creativity and responsibility for their work. The project "SOS Locator" brings high feasibility and applicability, especially in the context of the digital age, when security and emergency rescue issues are becoming increasingly urgent.
