In the opening match of the AVC Challenge Cup 2023, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team met a team that was rated much lower, Mongolia. Despite facing an easy opponent, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet still deployed his strongest lineup.
In the first minutes, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team did not really start the game well. Only at the score of 5-5 did the girls in red shirts start to take the lead with 6 consecutive points.
The Mongolian team tried hard but the gap kept widening before the Vietnamese team won 25-12.
The second and third sets also took place with similar results, the Vietnamese team completely dominated their opponents and won 3-0, with the scores of the sets being 25-12, 25-17 and 25-12 respectively.
In this match, captain Thanh Thuy continued to be the top scorer of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team (9 points), despite the fact that the main attacker wearing jersey number 3 only played in the first two sets before being let go.
In addition to Thanh Thuy, Tra Giang had 7 points, Vi Thi Nhu Quynh and Doan Thi Xuan each scored 6 points, Nguyen Thi Trinh, Kieu Trinh and Nguyet Anh all had 5 points.
After the victory over Mongolia, the Vietnamese team will have their final group stage match in Group D against Uzbekistan, also at 7:00 p.m. on June 19.
The AVC Challenge Cup 2023 takes place in East Java, the easternmost tip of Java Island, where Surabaya is located, the second largest city in Indonesia (after the capital Jakarta).
At the AVC Challenge Cup 2023, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is in Group D with Mongolia and Uzbekistan, which are not highly rated opponents.
The level of difficulty only increases as Thanh Thuy and her teammates are likely to meet Taiwan (China) and Iran in the second group stage.
