Information from the Ministry of Industry and Trade said that Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien is conducting field surveys in many localities to grasp the situation and from there will propose policies related to industry, mining, energy, import and export...
On August 30, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien visited Kim Thanh border gate (Lao Cai province) to inspect the import and export situation of Vietnamese goods, and had a meeting with leaders of Lao Cai province to deploy a number of solutions to promote the advantages of trade and border gate economy that this locality has.
At the meeting, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien emphasized the achievements and advantages of Lao Cai province, such as the locality's export turnover increased more than twice compared to the same period last year (while the national increase was only 15.7%); import turnover through Lao Cai province's border gate also increased by 50% (far exceeding the national increase of 18.5%).
The Minister said: “The import volume not only serves Lao Cai but also the whole country. This proves that imported raw materials for production through this border gate are increasing.”
Minister Nguyen Hong Dien's survey trip not only stopped at impressive export achievements but also expanded to the fields of mineral exploitation and clean energy development.
According to the report, Lao Cai is implementing many large projects such as 28MW of rooftop solar power, 30MW of biomass power, 25 small hydropower projects, and is focusing on deep mineral processing.
According to Minister Nguyen Hong Dien, with its strategic location and resources, Lao Cai is on track to become an important economic center, not only in the fields of minerals and energy but also in trade and logistics. Infrastructure and logistics development projects will facilitate the circulation of goods and attract investment, affirming the role of connecting trade between Lao Cai province and the whole region.
At the working session with leaders of Lao Cai province, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien especially emphasized the importance of investing in developing logistics infrastructure, including the warehouse system at Lao Cai Border Gate Economic Zone.
This proposal is not only to facilitate the circulation of goods, but also to help effectively exploit the economic potential of the border gate. The goal is to build Lao Cai into a strategic trade connection center, not only between Vietnam and ASEAN countries with the Southwest region - China, but also reaching out to Eastern European markets.
Previously, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien had conducted similar surveys in the provinces of Kon Tum, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan.
