Opening a new chapter of cooperation between Vietnam and China

Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Vietnamese leaders agreed on important strategic orientations and soon concretized the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

On March 26, during his official visit to Vietnam, Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong held talks with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, paid a courtesy visit to General Secretary To Lam, and had meetings with President Luong Cuong and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.

Early concretization of comprehensive strategic partnership

At the reception for Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, General Secretary To Lam affirmed that Vietnam values ​​Singapore not only as a fellow ASEAN member, but also as a key partner, accompanying Vietnam in its development and international integration process.

The General Secretary proposed that the two sides continue to concretize the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries soon through the signing of the Action Program to implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the 2025-2030 period. The General Secretary emphasized that the six pillars of cooperation within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries are very important; proposed to promote cooperation between the two ruling parties and agree on strategic orientations for training officials.

The General Secretary also welcomed and supported the proposal to cooperate with Singapore in the field of green energy as well as the green power grid in the region; upgrading the VSIP industrial park system towards a greener, smarter and more connected direction. On this occasion, General Secretary To Lam welcomed and appreciated Singapore's recent granting of a license to open its market to Vietnamese agricultural and livestock products, and assessed that the two countries have many favorable conditions to expand cooperation on food security.

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong highly agreed with the important strategic orientations for bilateral cooperation in the coming time proposed by the General Secretary, bringing about substantive and effective development of bilateral relations, bringing benefits to the people of both countries, and becoming a model of cooperation in ASEAN countries.

The two leaders agreed to further deepen relations between the two ruling parties, maintain cooperation in training strategic cadres, study and establish a regular exchange mechanism to enhance mutual understanding, share experiences in national development, and create a foundation for bilateral relations in the future.

Typical regional cooperation

At the talks, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong agreed on measures to create new breakthroughs for the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The two sides agreed to increase delegation exchanges and contacts at high and all levels; effectively implement bilateral cooperation mechanisms, especially the mechanism of the Annual Meeting between the two countries' Prime Ministers; and further strengthen defense and security cooperation, especially cyber security.

The two Prime Ministers pledged to strengthen economic ties through effectively promoting the five pillars of the Agreement on Connecting the Two Economies, the Green Economy - Digital Economy Partnership, and making Vietnam - Singapore cooperation a model of cooperation in the region.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed that Singapore facilitate the introduction of Vietnamese agricultural, forestry, aquatic and processed food products into Singapore's distribution system; and develop the VSIP 2.0 network in a sustainable and smart direction. The Singaporean Prime Minister agreed that the two countries need to clarify key issues to upgrade the current VSIP system to VSIP 2.0 to meet the requirements of greener, smarter and more efficient development.

The Singaporean Prime Minister suggested that the two countries soon make substantial developments in offshore wind power exports, carbon credit exchange, and cooperation in the field of financial technology through a cross-border retail payment connection project using QR codes and cross-border data transmission, thereby further facilitating production and business activities of enterprises of the two countries.

During the visit, Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and his wife Loo Tze Lui laid wreaths and visited President Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum, and laid wreaths at the Monument to Heroes and Martyrs on Bac Son Street (Ba Dinh, Hanoi).

Support each other in the international arena

At the meeting between Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and President Luong Cuong, the two leaders agreed that Vietnam and Singapore share common views and visions on regional and world issues. The two countries need to continue to closely coordinate and support each other at regional and international forums, especially ASEAN and the United Nations, for peace, stability, cooperation and development; maintain solidarity and common stance of ASEAN on important international and regional issues, including the East Sea issue.

During a meeting with National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong affirmed that Singapore attaches importance to and wishes to strengthen and deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam in all areas, including cooperation between the two legislative bodies. The two leaders agreed that the two countries' National Assemblies should continue to increase the sharing of information and good experiences of each country in perfecting institutions, policies, and legal systems;...

Regarding multilateral and regional cooperation, the two sides agreed to continue to maintain consultation and support each other at international and regional forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), etc.
