"Knowing that the Madam likes the color blue, I chose the fabric color of this ao dai like that," Madam Ngo Phuong Ly shared when meeting with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong's wife, Ms. Loo Tze Lui, in the Presidential Palace grounds.
What was special about the meeting was that both ladies wore straight ao dai, with Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly's ao dai featuring the "Papilionanda Tô Lâm Linh Ly" orchid - a gift from Singapore. Mrs. Loo Tze Lui chose a scarf embroidered with the lotus flower, which is considered the national flower of Vietnam.
This delicacy and respect for local culture made the reunion take place in a friendly and open atmosphere.
Recalling her official visit to Singapore from March 11 to 13, she expressed her appreciation and gratitude for the warm and respectful reception that the Prime Minister, his wife, the Government and people of Singapore gave to General Secretary To Lam and his wife and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation.
Sharing her good impressions of the beautiful, modern island nation of Singapore and the friendly and hospitable Singaporean people, Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly said she was impressed with the orchid naming ceremony and will always keep deep feelings when returning to Vietnam.
The orchid "Papilionanda Tô Lâm Linh Ly" is still taken care of by her every day and was also brought to the reunion on March 26.
Sincerely thanking Madam Ngo Phuong Ly for taking the time to meet, Madam Loo Tze Lui said that this visit is of great significance to the relationship between the two countries. She expressed her joy that the General Secretary's wife was impressed with the country, people of Singapore and the special gift of orchids.
She shared that although her visit to Vietnam was not long, she was able to visit some places such as the Museum of Ethnology and enjoy some Vietnamese dishes, thereby feeling that Vietnam is a country with a long history and rich cultural traditions.
Thoroughly introducing the weaving method and respectfully presenting Madam Loo Tze Lui with a self-designed ao dai, Madam Ngo Phuong Ly introduced to the Singaporean Prime Minister's wife the history of Vietnamese ao dai and the meaning of the lotus flower on the ao dai she presented.
After the conversation, Madam Ngo Phuong Ly invited Madam Loo Tze Lui to enjoy water puppetry, saying that this is a unique form of Vietnamese folk culture.
Madam Ngo Phuong Ly hopes that through the water puppet shows, Madam Loo Tze Lui will feel and understand more about the cultural life and outlook on life of the Vietnamese people.
With sincere thanks to Madam Ngo Phuong Ly for her warm and friendly welcome, Madam Loo Tze Lui expressed her hope that in the future we will have the opportunity to meet again to share and exchange about the diverse cultures of each country.
