The Cuban government has issued a number of preferential policies for foreign investors to develop the rice production sector. In the spirit of ensuring mutual benefits, the Cuban Minister of Agriculture called on Vietnamese rice enterprises to pay attention and explore investment in Cuba.
On December 12, a working delegation from the Cuban Ministry of Agriculture led by Minister Ydael Jesús Pézez Brito visited rice production and trading activities of a number of enterprises in Can Tho City. The activity is part of the cooperation agreement between Vietnam and Cuba during the recent high-level visit of General Secretary To Lam to Cuba. In particular, Vietnam will support and help Cuba develop rice and other crops, ensuring national food security in the coming time.
The delegation visited Hoang Minh Nhat Joint Stock Company (Thoi Lai district, Can Tho).
Through the working trip, the Cuban Ministry of Agriculture hopes to learn from Vietnam's rice production experience; invite Vietnamese rice businesses to invest, develop, and promote food production in Cuba. Mr. Nguyen Hoang Hiep - Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) - said that Cuba has the advantage of developing many large-scale fields, with infrastructure ready to serve production. According to the plan, Vietnam will support Cuba in producing rice on-site from 15,000 - 20,000 hectares of rice in 3 years (2025-2027), and by the end of 2025, it will strive to reach about 5,000 hectares. Mr. Hiep hopes that Vietnamese businesses will pay attention and orient their development in Cuba. The Ministry will organize a delegation on agricultural investment, inviting businesses to join in learning about production conditions, markets, and development opportunities in Cuba. Cuban Minister of Agriculture Ydael Jesús Pézez Brito expressed his impression of the model of cooperation between enterprises - cooperatives and Vietnamese farmers, from providing input materials, providing technical guidance on production to purchasing output products. This process has contributed to ensuring the quality of rice supplied to the market.Cuban Minister of Agriculture - Ydael Jesús Pézez Brito.
Mr. Ydael Jesús Pézez Brito said that Cuba currently has 200,000 hectares for rice cultivation, with about 20,000 farming households. Conditions in terms of people, land, infrastructure, irrigation systems, transportation, etc. are very favorable. However, Cuba's annual rice cultivation area is currently only 20,000 - 30,000 hectares. The government of this country wishes to increase the rice area to 100,000 hectares/year, to meet the country's food needs. Recently, the Cuban government has issued a number of preferential policies for foreign investors to develop rice production in this country, including Vietnam. In the spirit of ensuring mutual benefits, Minister Ydael Jesús Pézez Brito called on businesses that have been successful in rice production and trading in Vietnam to pay attention, learn, and invest in Cuba.
