Cuba announced that a Russian cargo ship carrying 24,000 tons of wheat arrived at the port of Havana on March 1, helping the Caribbean island nation ensure bread production to serve its people's diet until the end of this month.
The new shipment from Russia will allow three processing plants in Havana to resume operations and the wheat will be distributed to all regions of the country, said Zaily Pérez, commercial director of the Cuban Milling Company.
In addition, another shipment has been signed to extend the supply of wheat to Cuba until mid-April.
Not only helping to solve food security issues, Moscow also helps Havana in the energy sector when a Russian tanker recently transported 100,000 tons of crude oil to Cuba.
The Energy Institute of the University of Texas (USA) on February 18 released data showing that Russia sent the Akademik Gubkin tanker carrying crude oil worth about 55 million USD to Cuba to help the Caribbean island overcome a serious energy crisis./.
