Worryingly, many people have prediabetes without knowing it because it often has no obvious symptoms, according to The Indian Express (India).
Dr. V. Mohan, a diabetologist in India, shared some important information about the signs of prediabetes.

What is prediabetes?
Prediabetes is an intermediate stage between healthy people and people with diabetes. At this stage, blood sugar levels have begun to rise higher than normal but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) standards, if your test results show that your fasting blood sugar is between 110-125 mg/dL or your blood sugar 2 hours after eating is between 141-199 mg/dL, then you are in the pre-diabetes stage.
Prediabetes doesn't cause serious consequences?
Many people mistakenly believe that prediabetes is just a transitional stage and does not cause serious consequences. However, this is not true.
When you have prediabetes, your blood sugar levels start to rise, along with your blood pressure and cholesterol. These changes can cause long-term damage to your heart, kidneys, and other organs.
If not well controlled, prediabetes can quickly progress to diabetes. Therefore, it is extremely important to diagnose and treat prediabetes as early as possible.
To prevent diabetes, we need to change our daily habits, including eating healthy, exercising regularly and losing weight. If these methods do not bring the expected results, see a doctor for treatment support.
Prediabetes screening
Regular health checks are important for early detection of diabetes. All adults over the age of 30 should have regular screenings.
In particular, people with high risk factors such as family history of diabetes, obesity, polycystic ovary syndrome, lack of exercise, and high stress need to pay more attention.
Tests commonly used to screen for prediabetes are the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) and the hemoglobin A1C (HbA1C) test.
The OGTT test helps assess how well your body processes sugar, while the HbA1C test shows your average blood sugar level over the past 3 months.
