On the evening of September 28, swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang entered the final round of the men's 800m freestyle event.
Huy Hoang celebrates the bronze medal in the men's 800m freestyle event.
The Vietnamese athlete successfully defended the bronze medal with a time of 7 minutes 51 seconds 51.
At the same time, Huy Hoang also achieved standard A and won a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Meanwhile, Korean swimmer Kim Woo-min won the gold medal with a time of 7 minutes 46 seconds 03. Right behind was Chinese athlete Fei Liwei.
In this competition, Huy Hoang accelerated from the first 100m to maintain his position in the top 3 and create a gap with the chasing group.
Despite being closely followed by Shogo Takeda, the swimmer from Quang Binh still tried his best to protect his achievement.
At one point, the swimmer born in 2000 even threatened the second place of the host country's swimmer Fei Liwei.
But in the end, Huy Hoang still finished in 3rd place and won the bronze medal.
Previously, in the final of the men's 1,500m freestyle event held on September 27, Huy Hoang regretfully missed out on the medal.
Although he maintained third place throughout the 1,450m, the 23-year-old swimmer was eventually overtaken by Takeda Shogo in the last 50m.
In fact, Huy Hoang's achievement was only 77% of seconds behind the bronze medalist in this event.
