(Dan Tri) - Thailand's Siamsport newspaper admitted that Supachok Sarachat's goal to make it 2-1 in the second leg of the 2024 AFF Cup final on the evening of January 5 was an unfortunate move.
The controversial situation occurred in the 64th minute of the second leg of the AFF Cup 2024 final on the evening of January 5, when the Thai team scored a goal from a long-range shot by Supachok to raise the score to 2-1. It is worth mentioning that the player wearing the number 7 shirt of Thailand scored in a situation where the Vietnamese team players were waiting for a fair-play return. Because before that, goalkeeper Dinh Trieu had intentionally thrown the ball out of bounds because Hoang Duc was lying on the field after a collision with an opposing player.

Commenting on the above goal, Thai newspaper Siamsport said that Supachok's goal to increase the score to 2-1 made the match more dramatic but it should not have happened. "Although Supachok did not violate any rules, in the spirit of noble sportsmanship , this player should have passed the ball back to the Vietnamese team because it was clear that goalkeeper Dinh Trieu had previously deliberately thrown the ball out of bounds. That goal angered the Golden Star Warriors, making them more determined and as a result, Thailand had to concede 2 more goals," Siamsport wrote. On all social networking sites, neutral fans also said that Supachok's goal was not a beautiful goal and strongly condemned the player's lack of fair-play. Many fans flooded the personal page of the Thai national team striker to attack, forcing him to lock his social networking account. In addition, Siamsport newspaper also pointed out the reason why Thailand lost to the Vietnamese team was due to the red card of midfielder Weerathep Pomphan in the 74th minute.

"Weerathep received a second yellow card because he could not keep his cool when he saw Supachok being repeatedly fouled without the referee blowing the whistle. Playing with fewer players made the Thai players feel tired and their physical strength decreased due to having to play continuously. Therefore, coach Ishii Masatada's team could not successfully defend their championship title," Siamsport explained. Accepting the bitter defeat, coach Ishii Masatada affirmed that Thailand will soon come back strong thanks to a promising young force and the consensus of the whole team. Meanwhile, the AFF Cup 2024 championship promises to be a premise for the Vietnamese team to advance further under coach Kim Sang Sik.
