At noon on October 27, storm No. 6 Tra Mi caused heavy rain and strong winds in Thua Thien Hue province. The Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Thua Thien Hue province said that in some places such as Thuan An beach, the strongest wind was level 9, Hue city, the strongest wind was level 8, A Luoi district, level 6 and Nam Dong district, level 7.
At Hoa Duan dam area (Phu Thuan commune, Phu Vang district) and part of Thuan An ward (Hue city), rising sea water has overflowed the sandy shore of the beach and rushed into residential areas.
The leader of Phu Thuan Commune People's Committee said that up to now, the sea level continues to rise and rise faster. Local forces are continuing to monitor to have further handling plans.
Mr. Phan Cong Man, Chairman of Phu Loc District People's Committee, said that high tides caused sea water to rise into Lap An lagoon and flood into people's houses, deeply flooding many sections of National Highway 1A through the area.
Speaking with VietNamNet reporters this afternoon, Mr. Dinh Viet Cuong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hong Bac commune (A Luoi district, Thua Thien Hue province) said that in the commune, there are about 15 households in Tan Hoi, Ra Loóc A Soc, Le Ninh, and Le Loc 2 villages that have gone to the forest to work on the fields and have not returned home yet.
According to Mr. Cuong, these households have camps at A Lin stream and some other areas. Due to the impact of heavy rain, the initial assessment is that they are staying in the camp and cannot return home. Currently, the local government is continuing to review the list and prepare a rescue plan.
The Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control of Thua Thien Hue province said that heavy rains in recent days have caused floods on rivers to rise rapidly. At 10am this morning, the Huong River at Kim Long was 2.06m high - 0.06m above alert level 2.
According to forecasts, in the next 12 to 24 hours, floods on rivers in Thua Thien Hue province will continue to rise and fluctuate at alert level 2 to alert level 3, posing a risk of flooding in many areas in the area.
In Quang Tri, according to a quick report from the Gio Linh District People's Committee, heavy rain and high waves caused a number of shops to collapse, including four shops at Gio Hai beach that collapsed completely; many sections of the coastal embankment under construction were eroded.
Heavy rain also caused landslides on some sections of Nguyen Huu Tho Street (Cua Viet town). Local authorities mobilized forces to set up barriers and warnings for people to travel safely.
In Vinh Linh district, heavy rain and strong winds caused fishing boat QT - 21093TS anchored at Cua Tung Storm Shelter to sink. Heavy rain has also caused some communes to be partially flooded; the river water is rising rapidly, close to the edge of the left bank of Ben Hai River and about to overflow the bank.
