On the morning of August 12, at the Can Tho City Sports Center, the opening ceremony of the Mekong Delta Press Agency Football Tournament - Press Cup 2023 took place, organized by the Vietnam Family Magazine in Can Tho City. Attending the event were leaders of regional news agencies, representatives of departments, branches and sectors of Can Tho City, along with more than 200 athletes and coaches.
The organizers presented flowers and souvenir flags to the teams participating in the tournament.
This year's Press Cup takes place on August 12 and 13, with the participation of 6 teams: Ca Mau Press Alliance, Soc Trang Radio and Television Station, Can Tho Radio and Television Station, Bac Lieu Press Alliance, Can Tho Newspaper, Delta Press FC. Regarding the competition format, the 6 teams are divided into 2 groups to compete in a round robin to select 4 teams to enter the semi-finals. The two winning teams in the semi-finals will play the final on the afternoon of August 13.
Bac Lieu Press Alliance played the first match after the opening ceremony with Delta Press FC.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the football tournament, journalist Le Phuong Nguyen - Head of the Representative Office of Vietnam Family Magazine in Can Tho, Head of the Organizing Committee, said: “The Mekong Delta Press Cup is part of the National Press Agency Football Tournament - Press Cup initiated and organized annually by Vietnam Family Magazine in collaboration with the Press Department Trade Union (Ministry of Information and Communications) from 2016 to present. The tournament is an opportunity to practice physical fitness and connect cooperation in the field of media, creating a playground for football teams of central and local press agencies in the region. In addition, it also creates conditions for journalists to exchange, learn and celebrate the 78th anniversary of the successful August Revolution and National Day September 2nd”.
It is known that the team that won the first prize of the 2023 Press Cup in the Mekong Delta region will represent the region to participate in the 7th National Press Cup final round - 2023 in Hanoi.
