Domestic pepper price updated on March 5, 2025 |
Pepper prices are on the rise thanks to a decline in global supply while demand in major markets such as the US, Europe and China remains stable. Since the beginning of 2025, domestic pepper prices have increased by VND10,000 - 12,000/kg, with an increase of VND10,000 - 11,000/kg in February 2025 alone. Currently, pepper prices range from VND157,000 - 159,000/kg, 65 - 70% higher than the same period last year.
The decline in pepper production stems from a trend of shrinking planting areas over the past 10 years, as many farmers switch to higher-value crops such as coffee and durian. However, the outlook for Vietnam’s pepper industry in 2025 remains positive thanks to strong demand. According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association (VPSA), global pepper production continues to decline, creating an export advantage for Vietnam.

Vietnam's Pepper and Spice Industry continues to affirm its important position in the global market, accounting for 40% of total output and nearly 55% of world pepper export turnover. However, in the context of increasingly fierce integration and competition, improving quality, risk management and expanding cooperation opportunities are core factors for the industry to develop sustainably.
According to statistics from experts, the current pepper growing area is only 15% of the coffee area and 12% of the rubber area, but the export value contributes 23% to the coffee industry (5.6 billion USD) and 38% to the rubber industry (3.4 billion USD). This shows the great potential of the pepper industry if invested in the right direction and increased added value.
Ms. Hoang Thi Lien - President of the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) affirmed that with its leading position in the world, Vietnam is not only a country exporting raw materials but is also shifting to developing deeply processed products, increasing export value. However, the industry also faces many challenges, from climate change, pressure from harmful organisms, increasingly strict quality requirements from the international market, and increasing transportation costs.
