Experts say pepper prices are rising due to reduced global supply, while demand in the US, Europe and China is stable. However, the market may slow down when the new harvest replenishes supply.

According to statistics, from the beginning of 2025 until now, domestic pepper prices have increased by 10,000 - 12,000 VND/kg, in February 2025 alone, the price of this item increased by 10,000 - 11,000 VND/kg. At the same time, with prices fluctuating between 157,000 - 159,000 VND/kg, domestic pepper prices are 65 - 70% higher (62,000 - 64,000 VND/kg) than the same period last year.

According to the forecast of the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), global pepper output continues to decrease while consumption demand remains stable, creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese pepper exports.

The strong growth in pepper export value in the first months of 2025 is explained by many factors, including the forecast decrease in global pepper production in 2025, leading to scarcity and pushing up prices. Global pepper consumption demand remains stable, especially in major markets such as the United States and Europe.

According to the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), pepper prices have increased since the beginning of the year in most major export markets. Of which, Indonesia recorded the strongest increase with white pepper prices increasing by 12.8% and black pepper by 6.9%. In Brazil, pepper export prices increased by 7.5%, while Malaysia also witnessed increases of 5.9% for black pepper and 8.4% for white pepper, respectively.

Overall, pepper prices are on an upward trend and show signs of remaining high this year. Although the market is in a period of adjustment, pepper export prices continue to increase, bringing positive signals to farmers.

However, inventory strategies need to be carefully calculated to minimize risks from global market fluctuations.
