Selling Tet flowers in 4.0 era
At this time, social networks have begun to bustle with ornamental flower products for sale, diverse from flower varieties to colors and prices to supply the ornamental flower market for the Lunar New Year 2024.
In Can Tho City, Mr. Pham Van Thanh (Phong Dien District) instead of choosing to sell traditional products like previous years, this year, his family has started posting pictures and introducing Tet flower varieties on social networks to sell to consumers.
It is known that for Tet 2024, Mr. Thanh's family will plant 1,500 pots of various flowers, mainly marigolds, chrysanthemums, and lisianthus. Of these, 1,000 pots were ordered by traders with prices ranging from 50,000 - 120,000 VND/pot, depending on the type.
“I see that many people buy online, so this year I will try selling online to see if it is more profitable. I have been selling since the 20th of Tet, and more than half of the 500 pots for retail sale have been sold. They sell better than selling directly,” said Mr. Thanh.
Grasping the consumer psychology of liking convenience and speed, Ms. Uyen Linh (Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city) also chose to sell online for Tet 2024.
“At first, I was not used to selling, but gradually I learned how to write articles, close orders and deliver them to customers. I have been selling since the 15th of December until now, and the number of orders is quite good. During Tet, people are busy so they will choose to buy online more, although it is a bit difficult, I sell a lot of products” - Ms. Linh said.
According to a survey by Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, the prices of ornamental flowers sold on social networks range from a few tens to a few hundred thousand VND. Specifically, traditional yellow raspberry chrysanthemums cost 100,000 VND/pot, super bud roses cost 45,000 VND/pot, gerbera daisies cost 60,000 VND/pot, marigolds cost 15,000 - 50,000 VND/pot...
Reduced many costs
According to many small traders, selling Tet flowers online reduces many costs compared to selling in the traditional way, especially making more profit because you don't have to rent a space.
“Every year, I spend a few million VND to rent a stall at the market to sell to customers. Now, when I sell online, the flowers are still in my garden, I don’t have to spend any money to rent a space, nor do I have to transport them back and forth. I don’t know if I will sell all the flowers by Tet, but I already see that I have made a profit of a few million VND from not having to rent a space,” said Mr. Pham Van Thanh (Phong Dien district, Can Tho city).
Since selling online, Uyen Linh gardeners have also had less trouble waiting for customers in the hot weather. “A few years ago, we transported flowers to the stall, then took turns sitting there to sell, the sun was hot, and it was hard to travel. Now, we just stay at home, close orders, deliver when there are orders nearby, and hire a car to transport when there are orders far away and in large quantities. Selling online, there are more customers and I have less trouble,” said Linh.
According to Ms. Linh, selling online is not only less tiring, but gardeners also do not have to depend on traders, do not have to search for traditional markets, rent premises, or bargain, so they will reduce many costs, thereby making more profit.
Mr. Ha Vu Son - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Can Tho City - informed that for the Lunar New Year 2024, the Central Square 586 area (Phu Thu Ward, Cai Rang District) will be chosen as the location to organize the city's 2024 Tet flower market and the investor will be exempted from rent, electricity, water... to create the most convenient conditions for people to have a place to trade Tet flowers and ornamental plants.
The area is about 5 hectares, convenient for both road (Nam Song Hau road) and waterway (next to Hau river) for people to easily transport and trade Tet flowers and ornamental plants. The 2024 Tet flower market will officially operate from January 25 (December 15) and last until February 9 (New Year's Eve).
