The workshop aims to provide theoretical and practical basis for summarizing 20 years of implementing Directive 42-CT/TW, dated August 25, 2004 of the Central Party Secretariat on "Improving the overall quality of publishing activities".
Comrade Phan Xuan Thuy, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission; Pham Minh Tuan, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Communist Magazine, Chairman of the Vietnam Publishing Association chaired the workshop.
Speaking at the conference, comrade Pham Minh Tuan stated that publishing activities have developed strongly, with growth indicators in book titles and book copies reaching and exceeding the set target. The production capacity of the publishing industry increased by more than 2.3 times; the average book per capita ratio reached 6.1 copies in 2023, helping Vietnam enter the top 3 in Southeast Asia. The application of technology and digital transformation in the industry is taking place strongly, with 4,500 e-books in 2023, accounting for 15.3% of total publications. The application of Al and high technology in book editing, publishing and distribution is becoming increasingly popular.
Electronic publishing is growing with 32 publishers registered to operate in this field. With the timely and close guidance of the management and direction agencies; the attention and support of the governing agencies and above all the efforts of the publishers and each editor, it has created a rich and diverse range of genres, topics, and quality of content to promptly serve political tasks and meet the needs of readers. Publishers have published many valuable books on theory, politics, textbooks, science and technology, culture, literature and art.
According to the Chairman of the Vietnam Publishing Association, in addition to the important results achieved, improving the quality of publication content in accordance with the direction of Directive No. 42-CT/TW still has limitations. The number of publications is rich and diverse, but has not reached the necessary refinement. There is a lack of works of top value in many fields. Specialized books such as handbooks, career guidance, vocational training or books applying scientific and technological advances to serve economic and social development are still few. There are still many books of average quality, low knowledge and information content. Although the number of errors has decreased over the years, in recent years there have been no books with political and ideological violations, but errors in some details are still quite common, even some errors are repeated and are slow to be corrected. The application of new, modern technology in the field of publishing and content industry still has many limitations, lacking efficiency...
At the workshop, delegates discussed and affirmed the role of publishing activities as an important political, ideological and cultural field of the Party, and objectively and comprehensively assessed the quality of published content in recent times. In his concluding remarks at the workshop, comrade Phan Xuan Thuy, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission, affirmed that the opinions and presentations sent to the workshop were the result of careful, serious, dedicated and responsible research by experts, scientists and publishers, providing more evidence, arguments and perspectives to deepen the issues related to the workshop's theme.
Emphasizing that after more than 20 years of implementing Directive No. 42-CT/TW, new requirements have been set for improving the quality of publishing activities in general and the quality of publication content in particular, the Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission also pointed out a number of tasks and solutions that need to be focused on in the coming time. Accordingly, it is necessary to perfect institutions and policies, especially amending, supplementing or promulgating new regulations of the Party and State policies and mechanisms to remove bottlenecks and barriers in creating motivation to promote publishing activities in general and publication content in particular. Strengthening strong solutions to care for training and developing the team of artists - "soldiers on the cultural front". Prioritizing resource allocation, promoting investment in facilities, technology, and digital transformation for publishing activities. It is necessary to soon have a viewpoint and awareness about the connection between publishers and companies and bookstores through a transparent and clear cooperation mechanism, creating growth momentum for the publishing industry in general and publications in particular...
