What does Hanoi say about the information about cutting down and moving many trees next to Hoan Kiem Lake?

In recent days, information has emerged that Hoan Kiem district has proposed to the Hanoi People's Committee to cut down and move 25 trees to renovate and upgrade Ly Thai To flower garden next to Hoan Kiem lake.

On March 22, the Hoan Kiem District Construction Investment Project Management Board announced that to implement the Ly Thai To Flower Garden renovation project, the district will move some shade trees in the flower garden area. Some underdeveloped trees will be moved to the nursery, while others will be moved to suitable locations but will not be cut down.

Rare trees such as the red sưa tree will not be moved, in principle, after renovation, maximum greenery will be maintained. After renovation, Hoan Kiem district aims to increase the density of trees and grass to 400-500m2.

Diseased and underdeveloped plants will be removed and other plants added.

Regarding the plan to relocate trees, Hoan Kiem District is meeting with the Hanoi Department of Construction to reach an agreement. After that, the department will report back to the City People's Committee on the content of relocating trees according to the district's proposal.

Previously, in the official press release on March 21 of the People's Committee of Hoan Kiem District, it was confirmed that the flower garden space will be reorganized into three main areas: Khanh tiet area, Nha Ken yard area and flower garden park area. In which, Khanh tiet area includes the lobby, Khanh tiet yard and incense offering yard. Expanding Khanh tiet yard towards the sidewalk of Dinh Tien Hoang Street, Km0 will be located at the Center of Khanh tiet yard.

Nha Ken yard area: Re-plan the green tree system, lawn and Nha Ken yard area to increase the usable area.

Flower Garden Park Area: Organize space along 2 main axes: Including the Trumpet House - State Bank axis; Office of the President - Children's Palace. Expand the courtyard in the middle to organize activities. Arrange a water music system along the East - West axis. Add public toilets and a tourist information center in this area.

Expand the flower garden space connecting with Le Lai, Le Thach and Dinh Tien Hoang streets. Paving the flower garden area and the roadbed of Le Lai and Le Thach streets; painting and paving the roadbed of Dinh Tien Hoang street to connect the flower garden area and Hoan Kiem Lake.

Notably, Hoan Kiem district informed that it will replace shade trees, remove unsuitable trees, and plant additional trees to increase the shade area and landscape of the flower garden (8 trees must have their trunks and canopies cut down to move within the flower garden; 8 trees must be moved out of the flower garden; 9 trees with worms and poor growth will be cut down).

Also on the afternoon of March 22, speaking with CAND Newspaper, a leader of Hoan Kiem District said that next week, the district will review again and will report to the City People's Committee for consideration, decision and will inform the press.
