iPhone users, including the iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, and 15 Pro Max, should update to iOS 17.0.1 immediately. Apple says iOS 17.0.1 addresses three exploitable vulnerabilities. The company also released iOS 16.7 (build 20H19) for those who haven't upgraded to iOS 17 or who can't update.
Devices affected by this vulnerability include: iPhone XS and later, iPad Pro 12.9-inch gen 2 and later, iPad Pro 10.5-inch, iPad Pro 11-inch and later, iPad Air 3 and later, iPad 6 and later, and iPad mini 5 and later.
Security experts are warning Apple users to update iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS as soon as possible. While not providing much information, the “bitten apple” said that the vulnerabilities were discovered by The Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto and Google’s threat analysis department.
To install iOS 17.0.1, iPhone users go to Settings > General > Software Update and follow the instructions to download.
Previously, on September 18, Apple released iOS 17 for iPhone XS and later users. iOS 17 was first introduced at WWDC 2023. It brings many new features such as StandBy, Journal note-taking app, changes in Messaging. In particular, StandBy mode turns the iPhone into a smart screen when charging horizontally; interactive widgets to control music and lights in the home right on the lock screen; the auto-correction feature is also smarter thanks to the large language model.
