At noon on January 16 (local time), right after arriving in Davos, Switzerland, within the framework of his working trip to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a discussion with global businesses on cooperation in developing artificial intelligence (AI), automotive technology, semiconductor chips and ecosystems related to these industries. The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Vietnamese Embassy in Switzerland and FPT Corporation.

Major global corporations pledge to continue expanding investment and business in Vietnam

At the seminar, representatives of major corporations in the world such as Google, Siemens, Qualcomn, Ericsson... highly appreciated Vietnam's development achievements, Vietnam's vision in developing a green and sustainable economy; committed to continuing to expand investment and business in Vietnam; at the same time, hoped that the Vietnamese Government would continue to create conditions for businesses to invest and develop in the fields of technology, innovation, semiconductors, AI, strategic infrastructure...

Regarding the situation and some achievements of Vietnam in developing AI, automobile industry, semiconductor chip, information at the seminar said that after 2 years of implementing the National Strategy on research, development and application of AI, Vietnam has increased 7 ranks in the AI ​​readiness index, to 55th out of 181 countries in the world.

Vietnam currently has about 50 educational institutions providing AI training. Vietnam has also created a favorable environment for many AI enterprises in the world to develop in Vietnam in many fields such as: Healthcare, communications, education, cybersecurity, finance, smart factories, smart cities and semiconductor technology...

According to the Prime Minister, AI, semiconductors and the automobile industry are important industries.

Regarding the automobile industry, Vietnam has issued the National Strategy on Green Growth for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, including a roadmap for converting vehicles to electric ones; encouraging vehicles to use green and clean energy.

In the semiconductor sector, Vietnam has a clear vision and strong determination in pursuing and developing the semiconductor industry and building an ecosystem for the semiconductor industry.

Vietnam will soon issue a Strategy for Developing the Semiconductor Industry and a Project to Train 50,000 Semiconductor Engineers, aiming to promote cooperation between domestic and foreign enterprises, creating conditions to improve the quality of human resources and capacity of Vietnamese enterprises.

Delegates assessed that Vietnam has been attracting more and more corporations in the semiconductor industry. Many large corporations in the electronics and semiconductor industry have been present and are planning to expand their investment in Vietnam such as Intel, Samsung, Amkor, Qualcomm, Infineon, Marvell, Hana Micron... The US Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), the Asian Semiconductor Association and a number of large corporations and partners all highly appreciate Vietnam's potential in this field.

Vietnam always accompanies and cooperates with investors

Speaking at the seminar, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that Vietnam's 10-year socio-economic development strategy for 2021-2030 clearly defined: "...mobilizing all resources, developing rapidly and sustainably on the basis of science, technology, innovation and digital transformation, striving to become a developing country with modern industry and high middle income by 2030 and a developed country with high income by 2045".

According to the Prime Minister, AI, semiconductors and the automobile industry are important industries, with both old development drivers that need to be renewed and new drivers for development. Vietnam has issued a development strategy in the field of AI; building national data centers connected to data centers of ministries, sectors and localities.

Regarding automobile technology, Vietnam focuses on developing electric cars, using clean materials, low carbon emissions and investing in green transportation.

Representatives of major corporations in the world highly appreciated Vietnam's development achievements and Vietnam's vision in developing a green and sustainable economy.

Regarding the semiconductor industry, Vietnam has identified this as a new driving force for development and will invest to participate in all three stages of the semiconductor value chain including design, manufacturing and packaging; currently continuing to focus on developing information technology platforms and human resources and will have appropriate incentive policies.

The Prime Minister also said that to develop the above fields, Vietnam will continue to promote three strategic breakthroughs including strategic infrastructure to reduce logistics costs, input costs, and increase product competitiveness; training high-quality human resources; and perfecting institutions to facilitate and reduce compliance costs for businesses and people.

In 2023, in the context of many difficulties and challenges, Vietnam still maintains macroeconomic stability, controls inflation, promotes growth, ensures a large balance; attracts nearly 37 billion USD of registered FDI capital and disburses about 23 billion USD of FDI capital.

The Prime Minister hopes that businesses will continue to cooperate and invest effectively and sustainably in Vietnam, affirming that Vietnam always accompanies and cooperates with investors on the principle of harmonious interests between the State, people, businesses and investors, and at the same time, when there are risks, they will share them.
