DNVN - The carbon border adjustment mechanism has a strong and immediate impact on four sectors that Vietnamese enterprises are exporting. Including iron and steel, cement, fertilizer, and aluminum.

The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and the EU Forest Regulation (EUDR) have a strong impact on the export activities of Vietnamese enterprises. Especially exports to the EU market when CBAM has been activated since October 2023 and from December 30, 2025, EUDR will also be officially applied.

However, to penetrate deeply into the EU market, compliance with green standards is not only a challenge but also a great opportunity for businesses to increase product value and expand the market.

Sharing at the seminar "Green transformation for the goal of promoting ASEAN & EU trade" on August 30, Mr. Tran Tuan Minh - Director of the Vietnam - ASEAN Trade and Investment Promotion Center said that CBAM will have a strong and immediate impact on 4 fields that Vietnamese enterprises are exporting. Those are iron and steel, cement, fertilizer, aluminum.

Delegates attending the seminar discussed solutions to help businesses proactively adapt to challenges from CBAM and EUDR .

In addition, EUDR also affects sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, forestry, textiles and industrial products. Enterprises need to proactively adapt to not only survive but also develop in the global competitive environment.

According to Mr. Dinh Sy Minh Lang - Department of European - American Market (Ministry of Industry and Trade), greenhouse gas inventory for products of Vietnamese enterprises is not only a mandatory requirement, but also an important part in meeting the green standards of CBAM and EUDR. Therefore, enterprises should proactively seek support from competent authorities or reputable organizations and experts in this new field to effectively meet green transformation requirements.

From the perspective of an international consultant, Ms. Tran Nhu Trang - Chief Representative of the Swiss Import Promotion Program (SIPPO) in Vietnam shared that SIPPO is supporting businesses in building green supply chains, meeting EU green standards.

“Enterprises need to participate in training programs of the Government and international organizations to master the requirements of transformation and take advantage of the support of international organizations in Vietnam such as SIPPO to promote green transformation in enterprises,” said Ms. Trang.
