According to many businesses and farmers, on March 6, coffee prices were traded in many regions of Lam Dong, Dak Lak, Gia Lai, Dak Nong at 134,000 - 135,200 VND/kg depending on the type. In Binh Phuoc and Dong Nai, coffee prices were purchased by many businesses at 133,000 - 134,000 VND/kg.
Many agents and farmers said the above price increased by about 4,000 - 5,000 VND compared to more than a week ago and increased by 10,000 VND/kg compared to the end of January.
Similarly, coffee prices on the world exchange also fluctuated. Specifically, on the morning of March 6, the price of Robusta on the London exchange for May 2025 delivery decreased by 2 USD, reaching 5,643 USD/ton. And the July 2025 delivery period still increased by 4 USD, at 5,603 USD/ton.
On the New York floor, the price of Arabica for May 2025 delivery continued to increase by 11.55 cents, reaching 409.95 cents/lb. And the July 2025 delivery period increased by 11.85 cents, at 399.55 cents/lb.
Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on March 6, Mr. Nguyen Nam Hai, Chairman of the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association, said that climate change has led to a decrease in coffee supply in many countries, especially the supply of Arabica from Brazil; speculative activities; trade wars between countries, especially the US increasing tariffs on imported goods from many countries... are the main reasons affecting coffee prices.
"Coffee prices fluctuate depending on the time, but in the short term, prices are likely to remain good because the supply from the world's largest coffee producing country, Brazil, will not enter its main crop until July, and output is forecast to decrease due to the impact of the previous drought," said Mr. Hai.
Many experts believe that the sharp increase in Arabica coffee prices traded on the exchange may lead to many buyers prioritizing Robusta (the type of coffee that accounts for about 90-95% of Vietnam's output) for better prices, which may contribute to improving Robusta prices.
Coffee export price 5,575 USD/ton
According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in the first two months of the year, Vietnam exported 284,000 tons of coffee, reaching 1.58 billion USD. Although the volume decreased by 28.4% compared to the same period in 2023, the value increased by 26.2%.
The average export price of coffee in the past two months is estimated at 5,575 USD/ton, an increase of 76.3% compared to the same period in 2024. In particular, in February, Vietnam exported 193,031 tons, with a turnover of more than 1.08 billion USD, which is considered a record high turnover in a month for this industry.
Many businesses believe that if prices remain high and output is good, Vietnam's coffee exports this year could reach 6.2 - 6.5 billion USD, or even more (the whole year of 2024 will reach 5.48 billion USD).
