30 years of "Golden Rice" award, an admirable journey

30 năm giải — Artists and artisans have been attached and devoted to the "Golden Rice" contest during its 30-year journey.

On the evening of January 13, a large audience attended the 30th Anniversary Ceremony of "Golden Rice Flower - Shining Cai Luong Talent" (1993-2023) and enthusiastically cheered for the award ceremony of the final round of the "Golden Rice Flower" competition in 2023 held at the Voice of Ho Chi Minh City People's Theater (VOH).

Master - Meritorious Artist Huynh Khai emotionally said that this is a meaningful festival night, marking a journey full of efforts of VOH in preserving and maintaining traditional songs and reformed opera art, creating a strong vitality for the development of Southern amateur music.

After 30 times of organization, the competition has found many new and potential factors, including many famous singers, continuing their professional artistic path, joining hands to preserve and develop the art of Southern amateur music.

"Therefore, this festival night also honors the collectives, individuals and artists who have contributed to the success of the competition over the past three decades. I was moved to meet many artists, artisans, musicians and writers who have accompanied the award for the past 30 years. All of them are persistent, passionate and have great love for "Golden Rice" - Master - Meritorious Artist Huynh Khai said.

In his opening speech, reviewing the 30-year journey of the "Golden Rice" Contest, Mr. Le Cong Dong - Director of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Voice Station said that the contest was born in 1993, exactly 30 years ago. From a playground for young singers to the elderly to sing and learn together, up to now, the contest has continued to affirm its position, enduring vitality, and is the first step in the artistic journey of talents.

People's Artist Bach Tuyet shared that, in addition to organizing a meaningful competition with great influence, the organizers also continuously adapt, update, and improve to make this playground more contemporary so that the "Golden Rice" competition will always be a program that is loved by the audience.

Over the past 30 years, the competition has inspired and ignited passion for young generations who love the art of reformed opera, creating conditions for young people to participate in the following seasons.

Artist Thanh Hang was also moved to say that every Saturday afternoon, music lovers in the Southern region, especially farmers, looked forward to enjoying the traditional melodies of the contestants. Talented contestants also had the opportunity to show off their singing skills to satisfy their passion for the art of Cai Luong theater...

"We must mention the editors of VOH who in the early days had the initiative to organize the contest and maintain its activities until today. They are the dedicated, pioneering people who deserve to be honored" - artist Thanh Hang shared.

We contacted editor Pham Phu Tuc, who retired in 2013. He said he was very happy that the 30-year journey of "Golden Rice" had his own contributions and efforts with the editorial team of VOH to create this beautiful history.

He was the main director of the "Golden Rice Flower" contest from its inception until 2013. The organizing committee and editorial board of the "Golden Rice Flower" contest included: musician Tri Thanh, editor Pham Phu Tuc, composers Hai Dang, Minh Thuy, Thanh Vu, and Meritorious Artist Ngoc Mai.

The person who initiated and named the "Golden Rice" award is musician Tri Thanh - former Colonel, Head of the Art Troupe of Military Region 7, former Head of the Art Department of Ho Chi Minh City People's Radio (VOH).

After 30 years, Golden Rice has broadcast more than 1,500 shows, making it the longest-running program in the country's radio and television system.

It is indispensable that on this occasion, artists and artisans reviewed the 10-year journey since UNESCO recognized Don ca tai tu as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

On this occasion, the program also interacted with guests including former Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Huynh Vinh Ai, Meritorious Artist Hai Phuong, and Meritorious Artist Le Tu.

The Organizing Committee also awarded Certificates of Merit from the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to a collective and individuals who contributed to the "Golden Rice" contest; awarded prizes in the Writing Contest to celebrate the 30th anniversary of "Golden Rice"; awarded commemorative medals to individuals and awarded prizes in the 2023 Golden Rice contest to outstanding contestants.

Based on the scores from the Jury, the Organizing Committee awarded the following prizes: Champion (100 million VND) to contestant Nguyen Quynh Nhu (born in 1996, Bac Lieu), Runner-up Duong Thi My Nhung (born in 1997, An Giang); Third prize awarded to Huynh Thi Be Nhien (born in 1987, Ho Chi Minh City) and 3 Encouragement prizes to other contestants.

In addition, the Organizing Committee also awarded the following secondary prizes: Most Favorite Contestant voted by the audience to Huynh Thi Be Nhien; Impressive Style award was given to Nguyen Thanh Phuong.

In addition, judge - People's Artist Bach Tuyet also awarded the two highest prize winners 10 million VND each.
