Leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the province visited the OCOP booth of the Hien Vinh Northwest Agricultural Products Processing and Production Cooperative, Yen Binh district.

It is undeniable that the success of the "One Commune One Product" (OCOP) Program has contributed to the development of local key products, gradually transforming from fragmented agricultural production to production in the direction of value chain linkage, according to standards, regulations, traceability, meeting market demand..., bringing Yen Bai farmers' agricultural and forestry products beyond the province and reaching out to world markets such as China, Japan, the UK...

Considered as a "ray of light" to help businesses improve, consolidate and overcome all stages of the production and business chain in a scientific and effective manner, the OCOP Program has opened up new development opportunities for the Suoi Giang Cooperative, Van Chan District. With "4 decisions": Determined to regain the brand for the Suoi Giang tea region - Determined to build a team of indigenous workers - Determined to preserve and protect the precious tea region - Determined not to retreat, the Cooperative has invested more than 2 billion VND to build a factory, invest in modern equipment with a capacity of 2 tons of fresh tea buds/day, and at the same time cooperate with a number of experts in the tea industry to train members, workers..., becoming one of the units with a factory that meets HACCP standards; the raw material area has been granted a Geographical Indication certificate, the tea trees have been numbered to trace the origin of the growing area. In 2019, Tuyet Son Tra tea product of Suoi Giang Cooperative was the first product of Van Chan district to be ranked as a 4-star OCOP product.

In August 2023, 2 4-star OCOP products of Suoi Giang Cooperative, Shan Tuyet Red Tea and Shan Tuyet Leaf Tea, met European standards for export. Ms. Lam Thi Kim Thoa - Director of Suoi Giang Cooperative said: "Up to now, the Cooperative has 6 types of products named Tuyet Son Tra with good quality, packaged with beautiful designs, gradually dominating the domestic and foreign markets, including 2 products, Shan Tuyet Red Tea and Shan Tuyet Leaf Tea, which have ensured European standards and are exported to the UK and Japan markets. The average annual revenue of the Cooperative reaches 2.2 billion VND, profit reaches over 350 million VND; the average income of workers in the Cooperative reaches 5.7 - 6 million VND/person/month. The goal of the Cooperative is not only to develop high-quality tea products, build the Suoi Giang tea brand, but also to preserve the natural organic tea area, create income to encourage people to develop eco-tourism to benefit from the land considered the cradle of ancient tea trees".

It can be seen that, not only enhancing the core value of each OCOP product, sustainable development from the linkage chain is also a way to build a brand for products chosen by many businesses and cooperatives to reduce input costs, increase the competitiveness of goods in the market, and at the same time promote the application of high technology in production. With the view of maximizing the potential and advantages of land, climate, and natural conditions to develop the agricultural economy, gradually turning Yen Bai province into one of the key provinces in the Northern mountainous region in terms of clean agricultural production and organic agriculture, the province has issued policies to support businesses, organizations, and individuals producing in the province to promote the introduction of OCOP products to domestic and foreign markets, attracting and linking with potential businesses to consume products for farmers. Since then, initially, there have been businesses and companies investing in the agricultural sector, implementing chain linkages and consuming products for farmers such as: Yen Bai Mulberry Joint Stock Company; Central Vegetable and Fruit Seed Joint Stock Company invested in supporting the development of VH6 pear trees in Mu Cang Chai district, linking to consume all products for nearly 300 farming households; T9 Agricultural Products Import-Export Company Limited developed and linked to consume mango and chili products in Van Chan, Van Yen, Yen Binh, Tran Yen districts, Nghia Lo town...

The OCOP Program in the province has been responded to and participated by people and businesses, creating a new, modern and more effective direction in the production and trading of traditional products. The effectiveness of the implementation of the OCOP Program in many localities in recent times has been assessed as quite clear, creating a "new wind" in agricultural production and development. Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Hoang Huu Do affirmed: "With the right policies, timely development support mechanisms and policies, exploiting the potentials and advantages of the province, the OCOP Program has created a breakthrough in the socio-economic development of rural areas; contributing to restructuring the agricultural sector, developing the rural economy associated with building a modern and sustainable new countryside. Changing the mindset of agricultural production to the mindset of agricultural economics with three main factors: ecological agriculture, modern countryside and civilized farmers. The development orientation of the province's OCOP products in the coming time is not to pursue quantity but to improve quality, focus resources on developing existing products, and perfect conditions to upgrade products to meet the increasing demands of the market...

The project to develop OCOP products in the period of 2022 - 2025, with a vision to 2030, is oriented by the province to enhance value and develop sustainably by continuing to implement policies to support agricultural production development; promoting trade promotion from traditional to e-commerce..., which will be a premise to promote the development of Yen Bai's agricultural and rural economy; at the same time, creating sustainable livelihoods for people on the basis of promoting the advantages, natural conditions, and strengths of regions in the province.

By October 2024, Yen Bai had 248 valid OCOP products (25 4-star products, 223 3-star OCOP products); of which products in the field of cultivation accounted for 42% of the total products that had been granted OCOP certification. OCOP products in the province have been different, have their own characteristics, many products have collective brands, geographical indications affirming their advantages in the market, and are trusted by consumers.
