Since September, African swine fever has occurred in many localities in Yen Thanh district. The number of pigs that have to be destroyed is increasing and, more worryingly, the disease is spreading more and more widely.
On the morning of October 16, Mr. Nguyen Trong Huong - Director of Yen Thanh District Agricultural Service Center informed that samples of sick pigs sent for testing at the Veterinary Department of Region III on October 12 and 13 have now tested positive for African swine fever.
Accordingly, 6 new communes have outbreaks, including: Do Thanh, Hop Thanh, Tien Thanh, Lang Thanh, Tay Thanh and Bac Thanh. Thus, currently in the district, 13/39 communes and towns have African swine fever. However, the epidemic occurs in small-scale farming households.

Faced with the widespread epidemic situation, Yen Thanh district has provided 760 liters of chemicals to communes to organize environmental disinfection spraying; for lime powder, localities have proactively purchased funds to serve the epidemic prevention work. The district People's Committee has also established a steering committee for epidemic prevention, assigned specialized staff directly to the grassroots, and coordinated with localities to carry out epidemic prevention work.
Currently, Yen Thanh district has more than 82,500 pigs. Given the complicated epidemic situation, local authorities and pig farmers need to implement effective epidemic prevention solutions to protect the pig herd./.
