Many readers are wondering after the new Circular on road vehicle classification takes effect from January 1, 2025, what will be the inspection cycle for pickup trucks?
Speaking with a reporter from the Construction Newspaper, a representative of a registration center said: Circular 53/2024 of the Ministry of Transport (now the Ministry of Construction) regulating the classification of road vehicles clearly states that single-cabin pickup trucks and double-cabin pickup trucks are cargo vehicles with cabin designs and passenger compartment amenities similar to those of passenger cars.
Pickup trucks are classified as pickup trucks and therefore have the same inspection cycle as trucks.
The vehicle has an open (possibly covered) or closed cargo bed, which may or may not be attached to the cabin, and has doors for loading and unloading goods. The cargo bed is not equipped with amenities and interior for transporting people.
For single cabin pickup trucks, there is one row of seats in the cabin, while for double cabin pickup trucks, there are two rows of seats in the cabin. The number of people allowed to carry, including the driver, is not more than 5 people.
Meanwhile, a pickup truck is a car that has at least one feature different from the single-cab pickup truck or double-cab pickup truck mentioned above.
In Vietnam, most popular pickup truck models such as: Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi Triton, Toyota Hilux, Mazda BT-50, Nissan Navara, Isuzu D-Max are all in the double cabin pickup truck group. This is also clearly shown on the vehicle registration certificate, vehicle classification section.
Therefore, these pickup trucks will have the same inspection cycle as trucks. Specifically, according to Circular 47/2024, this type of vehicle has a first inspection cycle of 24 months, and is exempt from the first inspection in case it has not been used before, and the year of manufacture to the year of first inspection certificate is less than 3 years (year of manufacture plus 2 years).
After this cycle, vehicles with a production time of up to 7 years will have an inspection cycle of 12 months.
For vehicles with a production time of over 7 years, the inspection cycle is every 6 months.
In case of a vehicle being modified (renovating to convert its function or changing one of the following systems: steering, braking (except for the case of installing an additional brake pedal)), the first inspection period is 12 months, then there is a periodic inspection period every 6 months.
