Overcoming difficulties to success of veteran Nguyen Thi Kim Loan

In 1976, a 19-year-old girl from Ha Tay packed her bags and went to the Central Highlands to start a career. When she first arrived, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Loan worked as a youth worker in An Khe District Youth Union (An Khe Town), and her life was extremely difficult. In 1979, when the border war broke out, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Loan was called to join the army and worked as a clerk at the Gia Lai Provincial Military Command. The life of a soldier at that time was extremely difficult, but with the enthusiasm of youth and responsibility for her homeland and country, she still completed the assigned tasks.

In 1983, Uncle Ho was discharged from the army and transferred to work at the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Gia Lai province. In addition to his professional work, his family also raised pigs to improve their lives. The husband's salary was for savings, the wife's salary was for family expenses. For a long time, saving and raising pigs gave the family a decent amount of savings. After that, Uncle Ho used the money to buy land in the suburbs of Pleiku city. He bought from those who were bored, sold to those who needed it, after a while he had enough money to buy plots of land in the center of Pleiku city.

Following the success in animal husbandry, in 2002, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Loan opened a private company specializing in buying and selling motorbikes, the predecessor of the current Nam Long Joint Stock Company. To finance the company's operations, the plots of land that Ms. bought before opening the company were all mortgaged to the bank. When the motorbike market was "hot", the company's business encountered favorable conditions, gradually bringing in profits, helping her redeem the mortgaged plots of land. Businesswoman Nguyen Thi Kim Loan confided, "There were difficult times, I had to borrow from each person, even had to borrow 5 million from each individual. If I gave up, the company's assets would be liquidated at a low price, all the workers would lose their jobs, which would be very difficult. After struggling for many months, I decided to borrow from each relative and friend until I had enough money to fulfill the contract, then I would sell it for a profit immediately.

Continuing that momentum, I just made each batch of motorbikes, each year making a few dozen batches, so I made a profit.” The motorbike business of businesswoman Nguyen Thi Kim Loan was not only favorable but continued with many dramatic rescues. There were times when it seemed like it would dissolve, but with the bravery of a soldier forged in the military environment, Ms. Kim Loan still revived the company to operate stably and continue to develop. “There were difficult times, I had to play three roles at the same time, being an employee, a cleaner and an owner to reduce costs for the business,” Ms. Loan said. “At work, there were times when I was a leader, an owner and also an employee. In the company, I considered employee welfare to be necessary and should be done. When joining the company, I always created conditions for employees to choose the most favorable and best job positions for them to develop their abilities. There are people working in 6 to 7 positions, when they can no longer do the job, they quit on their own, our company does not have the two words "fire"", Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Loan - Chairwoman of the Board of Directors, Director of Nam Long Joint Stock Company shared.

During the years of the Covid 19 pandemic, Nam Long Joint Stock Company's revenue still reached 50 billion VND in revenue per year. However, in the first 9 months of 2023, the Company's revenue is on a downward trend. However, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Loan also said that all of her activities are fully supported by her husband and children. Therefore, she also had a quick view when the State issued a policy to implement renewable energy projects, she took advantage of her family's and company's roofs to penetrate the renewable energy sector. In addition, Ms. Loan also took advantage of beautiful real estate locations with rental value. The two fields of renewable energy and rental real estate have partly offset the losses this year.

Communicate with employees to understand and solve problems faster

Respecting employees and doing business with vision, in 2023, businesswoman Nguyen Thi Kim Loan continued to expand into the service sector such as opening a gym and opening a preschool class. The dream of the 67-year-old veteran businesswoman is to be able to create conditions to build a nursing home to care for lonely elderly people. Doing business and having a dream full of humanity, in 2009 she was elected by the people of group 11 as Party cell secretary and head of the residential group. In 11 years of concurrently doing business and social work, she raised 2 billion VND to widen 6 alleys, install 32 light bulbs on the roads, repair the residential group hall and install 15 loudspeakers in residential areas. Businesswoman Nguyen Thi Kim Loan not only does business effectively but also quietly contributes many useful things to society, worthy of being the image of Vietnamese women in the century of integration.
