Taking advantage of the warm weather in the first days of spring, farmers in many places in Hai Duong province eagerly went to the fields to sow and plant crops to ensure the harvest season.
On February 1 (the 4th day of Tet), farmers in many places in Hai Duong went to the fields to prepare the land and plant early spring rice.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thuan, a resident of An Thanh commune, Tu Ky district, Hai Duong shared: "As usual, the first days of the year, the weather is very favorable for the Winter-Spring crop, people take advantage of this opportunity to go to the fields."
Mr. Thuan also said that the farmers in his hometown were present in the fields early on the 4th day of Tet, starting the work of plowing and preparing the land for crops such as rice, corn, sweet potatoes and other vegetables.
Previously, according to information, in the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop, Hai Duong province planned to cultivate 53,000 hectares of rice, striving for a yield of 6.5 tons/ha, and a rice output of 344,500 tons.
Mr. Do Tien Bac, Head of the Irrigation Department of Hai Duong province, said that to ensure sufficient water for production, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has requested localities and irrigation units to proactively take, store water, and discharge water in accordance with the planting plan and crop structure.
Take advantage of the time when the water level on the river system rises to bring water to floodwaters most effectively; use water economically, have a plan to reserve water to serve irrigation for rice and crops.
In addition, localities and units that take water directly from the river system regularly monitor salinity and saltwater intrusion at river mouths to proactively take water into the system and ensure quality.
Mr. Cao Huu Trieu's family in Quan Son village, An Son commune, Nam Sach district grows 7 sao of coriander. Going to the field after Tet, he was very excited because the family's coriander growing area is growing well, expected to be harvested in 1 month.
Right from the third day of the Lunar New Year, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, a farmer in Ung Hoe commune, Ninh Giang district, took advantage of the favorable weather to go to the fields to plant rice. "According to the weather forecast, there will be a long cold spell coming, so farmers like us have to hurry up and finish the planting season, this will help the rice plants stabilize and grow," Ms. Thuy said.
