(Fatherland) - On the afternoon of December 16, in Hanoi, the People's Army Newspaper (QĐND) held an award ceremony for the photo contest "Portrait of a soldier". From 3,344 entries, the Organizing Committee selected and awarded prizes to 31 of the best works.
The photo contest "Portrait of a soldier" launched by the People's Army Newspaper is one of the key practical activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024), the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 - December 22, 2024) and the 80th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024).
After one year of launching (from October 2023 to October 2024), the Organizing Committee received the response of many photographers, photojournalists, officers, soldiers, and workers working at agencies and units across the army. There were 3,344 works by 450 authors working in 54 provinces and cities across the country participating in the contest. There were 2 authors sending more than 45 works, 10 authors sending more than 30 works, 12 authors sending more than 25 works; most authors sent from 4 to 15 works to the contest.
The organizers awarded the A prize in the photo series category to author Pham Bang.
Major General Doan Xuan Bo, Editor-in-Chief of the People's Army Newspaper, said that the success of the contest was not only due to the number of more than 3,300 works by 450 participating authors, but also the love for the profession, the interest in the topic of soldiers, and especially the impressive quality of the works. Most of the entries were artistic, rich in content, strong, breakthrough in composition, capturing multi-dimensional moments, containing the values of truth, goodness, and beauty about soldiers in training, combat readiness, labor, production, solidarity, and attachment with the people in difficult times, natural disasters, storms and floods...
The work won A prize in the photo series category.
"The contest has aroused the love of creation and passion for each frame of amateur photographers who are officers and soldiers working across the country. Their photos may not be the best or most impressive, but they contain a deep and touching sense of camaraderie, love between the army and the people, and love for their agencies and units," Major General Doan Xuan Bo affirmed.
After 5 rounds of judging, the Final Jury decided to select 31 outstanding works to award prizes. Of which, the A prize in the single photo category went to journalist Nguyen Manh Quan, reporter for Dan Tri Newspaper, with the work "The General in the arms of the people". The A prize in the photo series category went to journalist Pham Bang, reporter for Lao Cai Newspaper, with the work "Soldiers racing against time, searching for missing victims in Lang Nu village (Lao Cai)". In addition, the Organizing Committee also awarded 2 B prizes, 5 C prizes and 10 consolation prizes to authors with outstanding single photo works; awarded 2 B prizes, 5 C prizes and 5 consolation prizes to authors with outstanding photo series.
