In the list of U23 Vietnam players participating in the Asian qualifiers announced by coach Troussier on September 5, the following players are not listed: Huynh The Hieu, Nguyen Minh Quang, Pham Dinh Duy, Vo Nguyen Hoang, Dinh Xuan Tien, Tran Van Thang, Vu Tien Long, Huynh Cong Den, Nguyen An Khanh, Dang Tuan Phong, Giap Tuan Duong and Tran Nam Hai.
Van Tung (yellow shirt) will be the main striker of U23 Vietnam in the 2024 U23 Asian qualifiers.
However, not all players who are released are returned to their parent clubs.
Instead, some will be transferred to the Vietnamese national team to prepare for the friendly match with Palestine, some will return to the U23 team led by coach Hoang Anh Tuan to participate in the 19th ASIAD.
Specifically, 4 players including: Nguyen An Khanh, Dang Tuan Phong, Giap Tuan Duong and Tran Nam Hai will continue to practice with the Vietnam team.
Meanwhile, Nguyen Minh Quang, Vo Nguyen Hoang, Dinh Xuan Tien... will join the U23 Vietnam team on September 7.
On the afternoon of September 5, selected stars such as Quang Thinh, Tuan Tai, Hong Phuc, Van Tung, Thanh Nhan and Thai Son will have their last practice session in Hanoi.
Immediately after that, they will move to Phu Tho to prepare for the opening match with U23 Guam taking place at 7:00 p.m. on September 6 at Viet Tri Stadium.
In the 2024 U23 Asian qualifiers, coach Troussier and his team are in group C with U23 Guam, Singapore and Yemen.
The four teams will play a round robin to score points, and the group winner will qualify for the finals in Qatar in 2024.
Meanwhile, the second-placed team must consider their performance with the 10 second-placed teams in other groups. The four teams with the best results will qualify for the finals.
At the finals, the 3 teams with the highest results will qualify for the 2024 Olympic men's football event in Paris (France).
The fourth-placed team will play a play-off for a place in Paris against African football representative Guinea.
