In particular, the pedagogy sector has the strongest increase in the number of admission requests, 85% (about 200,000 requests) and has become one of the four sectors with the most admission requests this year (along with business and management, engineering and technology, and computers).

Explaining this "huge increase" phenomenon, Master Le Phan Quoc, Deputy Head of Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, said that there may be a number of reasons leading to the increase in enrollment in teacher training programs.
"Firstly, Decree 116 stipulates policies to support tuition fees and living expenses for teacher training students, which has an increasingly large impact on candidates' choices. Second, in recent times, information about the country's serious shortage of teachers has made candidates and parents very concerned," Master Quoc acknowledged.
In addition, according to Mr. Quoc, the benchmark scores for pedagogical majors have been increasing in recent years and in 2024, the minimum admission score for this major at many schools will also increase, with some majors reaching 24 points. Mr. Quoc believes that this affirms the capacity and value of the students, causing many candidates with scores at the top or near the top to want to apply.
"Another reason is that from July 1, the basic salary will increase for those working in public agencies, organizations, and career units, including teachers, which is also a motivation for students to choose the teaching profession," said Master Quoc.
It is known that the number of candidates and the number of admission wishes to Ho Chi Minh City University of Education in 2024 increased by more than 100% compared to last year. From 15,595 candidates with 23,345 wishes in 2023 to 31,252 candidates with 51,625 wishes.
Dr. Tran Huu Duy, Head of Training Department of Da Lat University, also informed: "According to total data, this year the number of applications to Da Lat University increased by 50% compared to last year, so the number of applications to the school's pedagogical majors will certainly increase a lot."
According to Dr. Duy, in addition to the preferential policies under Decree 116, the fact that many provinces inform about the lack of teachers at all levels is also an effect in attracting candidates.
"At the same time, the income of state officials, including teachers, has improved significantly, especially since July 1, which is also a motivation for candidates to register for this field," Dr. Duy commented.
Tran Tuan Anh, a former student of Phuoc Thien High School (Nhon Trach, Dong Nai), said he registered for the math and information technology pedagogy majors of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, and math and chemistry pedagogy majors of Saigon University. Tuan Anh explained: “I really love teaching. Recently, I read the news and learned that my province is lacking a lot of teachers. Besides, studying pedagogy not only does not require tuition but also provides living expenses. I am worried that with a score of 24.75, I wonder if I will be admitted to the math pedagogy major or not.”
